If you are not ready to book, turn on price tracking. Treat results as live fare snapshots and confirm the full itinerary and price with the booking provider before you buy.
Compare nearby departure and return dates with Date grid
- Open Google Flights and enter your departure and destination, passenger count, and cabin. Start with the route and travel preferences you actually intend to use; fares depend on the route and itinerary.
- Choose your initial departure and return dates and search.
- Select Date grid to compare fare combinations across nearby departure and return dates. Look for lower-priced combinations that still fit your schedule, rather than assuming a particular weekday is always cheapest. Google describes Date grid as a way to find lower-priced travel dates on its Google Flights product page.
- Open a promising date combination and review the specific flights before treating it as a candidate. A low calendar fare may correspond to a different schedule or itinerary than the one you want.
Use Price graph when you can shift your trip more
If the dates in the grid are still too restrictive, use Price graph to see how fares vary over a broader period. Google says the graph can show monthly or weekly fare trends, making it useful for comparing possible trip dates. Use it to identify dates worth checking; the displayed pattern is not a guarantee that a particular day will remain the cheapest or be available when you book. Use Explore for a wider window or flexible trip length
When you can be flexible beyond a few nearby dates, choose Explore and set the timeframe or trip length that works for you. Google’s flexible-date flow then displays trip options on a map, with the cheapest available flights highlighted. Its calendar can also show the lowest price for trips beginning on a selected day. Track prices if you are not ready to book
After searching, switch on Track prices for the searched dates or a flight you are considering. If your schedule is flexible, Google also supports tracking Any dates for a route. Google says it sends email updates when prices change significantly. You can review tracked routes and manage notifications from Tracked Flights. Follow Google’s current price-tracking instructions for the available controls.

Check the complete itinerary and fare before buying
Open the selected flight and compare the details that determine whether the apparent saving works for your trip:
- Total displayed fare and fare conditions: confirm what the fare includes and review the applicable conditions.
- Dates and schedule: check departure and return dates, times, trip length, and number of stops.
- Route and airports: make sure the airports shown are the ones you can use.
- Cabin and booking provider: verify that the option matches your cabin preference and note whether you will book with an airline or another provider.
Prices, currency, taxes, fees, and available flights can vary by city, and fares can change or sell out. Google’s guidance notes that the booking provider is the place to confirm details before you act on a fare; this is especially important if you are considering canceling and rebooking after a price drop. Why there is no universally cheapest weekday
Google Flights’ date tools compare fares for a particular route, trip length, cabin, and set of itinerary preferences. They help you find lower-priced options among the dates and flights available for your search; they do not establish one weekday as cheapest for every traveler. Compare the dates that work for your route, then decide whether any fare difference is worth the change in schedule or stops.
