To evaluate Nvidia stock, start with what the shares cost the market today, then compare that price with the company’s reported earnings, growth, profitability, and risks. Market capitalization and P/E ratios are useful inputs—not proof that NVDA is fairly valued or a buy. The figures below distinguish company-reported results from time-sensitive market data and analyst estimates.

Start with market capitalization—but date the figure

Market capitalization is the share price multiplied by the number of shares outstanding. It estimates the market value of a company’s common equity at a particular moment; it is not the value of the operating business as a whole, and it changes as the share price and share count change.

StockAnalysis showed Nvidia’s market capitalization at approximately $5.78 trillion as of October 6, 2026. Treat that as a dated snapshot, not a lasting company statistic. For the current figure, check the StockAnalysis market-cap page and note its date and share-count basis.

Market capitalization differs from enterprise value. Enterprise value typically adjusts market capitalization for debt and cash, and may include other claims depending on the provider’s convention. It can help compare businesses with different capital structures, but only when the calculation and date are clear. Do not substitute one measure for the other without saying which you are using.

Read earnings across both a quarter and a full year

Nvidia’s latest results identified here are for fiscal 2027’s second quarter, which ended July 26, 2026. The company reported $96.2 billion in revenue, up 106% year over year, and diluted earnings per share (EPS) of $2.46 under GAAP and $2.22 on a non-GAAP basis. The figures come from Nvidia’s Q2 fiscal 2027 earnings release; its Form 10-Q for the quarter provides the financial statements, business discussion, and risk disclosures.

A single quarter can show the pace of recent growth, but it should not stand in for a full year. For the fiscal year ended January 25, 2026, Nvidia reported $215.9 billion in revenue, a 71.1% gross margin, $130.4 billion in operating income, and $4.90 in diluted EPS. These figures are in the company’s FY2026 Form 10-K.

When you use earnings in a valuation, keep the measurement basis consistent. Check the reporting period, whether EPS is GAAP or adjusted/non-GAAP, whether it is diluted, and whether unusual items affect comparability. The GAAP and non-GAAP quarterly EPS figures above are different measures; a P/E using one should not be compared casually with a multiple using the other.

Understand what trailing and forward P/E actually measure

The price-to-earnings ratio (P/E) relates a share price to earnings per share. A trailing P/E uses earnings from a past period; a forward P/E uses expected earnings. Forward figures therefore depend on estimates and provider methodology—they are not results reported by Nvidia.

StockAnalysis displayed a trailing P/E of 30.25 and a forward P/E of 19.78 for October 2026. These are provider-calculated, time-sensitive ratios, not fixed company facts. Check the StockAnalysis financial-ratios page for its current figures and methodology.

A lower forward P/E than trailing P/E can reflect expected earnings growth, but it also depends on forecasts that may not be realized. Before comparing the two, confirm that the earnings definitions, dates, and periods are compatible. A ratio without those details can make unlike calculations appear comparable.

Judge whether growth and profitability support the price

Nvidia’s reported quarterly revenue growth and annual profitability are relevant evidence, but neither establishes what the shares are worth. An investor evaluating the price should ask whether growth can persist, whether margins and operating income remain strong, and how the company’s competitive position and risks affect future earnings. Recent exceptional growth alone does not establish that future growth will match it.

Management’s view can provide context, but it is not independent verification. While covering the fiscal 2027 second-quarter results, the Associated Press reported CEO Jensen Huang saying, “AI has reached its inflection point. It’s doing useful work. Its tokens are productive and profitable. Now, compute is revenue.” Treat this as management’s characterization of demand, not evidence that the same growth will continue. Check risks and compare like with like

Nvidia’s filings are essential alongside headline growth and valuation ratios. The company’s Q2 fiscal 2027 Form 10-Q and FY2026 Form 10-K contain business and risk disclosures to consider when assessing the outlook. Relevant areas include demand concentration, competitive pressure, supply and product transitions, and customer investment cycles.

If you compare Nvidia with other companies or with its own past valuation, align the evidence before drawing conclusions:

  • Use earnings growth measured over comparable periods, and assess whether it appears durable.
  • Compare gross and operating profitability using consistent accounting definitions.
  • Label trailing and forward P/E separately, and keep the earnings basis consistent.
  • Consider balance-sheet and cash-flow resilience alongside business risks.
  • For peer comparisons, account for differences in business mix and reporting periods; a multiple alone is not a like-for-like comparison.

The figures above do not establish an intrinsic value or a peer-based verdict that Nvidia shares are cheap or expensive. That conclusion would require explicit assumptions and a stated valuation method. This is general educational information, not individualized investment advice.
