On Android, the unofficial LSFG-Android project uses screen capture and an overlay rather than the Linux Vulkan-layer method; its developers estimate this adds 50–80 ms of latency compared with that method. Whether it works also depends on the phone’s GPU and Vulkan support.
What LSFG frame generation does
LSFG is a machine-learning frame-generation feature from Lossless Scaling. It synthesizes intermediate images between game-rendered frames. The distinction between the two rates matters: real FPS is how often the game produces a frame; total FPS includes generated frames shown between them. LSFG-Android’s HUD reports real and total FPS separately. A higher total figure can make motion appear smoother, but it does not mean the game is calculating new game states or processing input that often.
Lossless Scaling’s vendor guidance recommends a game running at 60 FPS with a 120 Hz display for best quality. It also says that 30 FPS with a 60 Hz display can work in some games at resolutions up to 1080p. These are recommendations, not guarantees for every title, display, or Android device. Lossless Scaling’s LSFG introduction was published on January 9, 2024.
How LSFG-Android works
The LSFG-Android project says its non-root Android port cannot use the Linux-style implicit Vulkan layer to hook another app’s swapchain. Instead, it captures the visible screen through Android’s MediaProjection API, generates intermediate frames, and presents the output in a system overlay. MediaProjection requires the user to approve screen capture at the start of each session and displays a persistent system indicator while capture is active.

The project documents LSFG_3_1 and LSFG_3_1P modes, multipliers from 2× to 8×, adjustable flow scale and pacing controls, and a frame-graph HUD. These are documented features, not evidence that every mode or multiplier performs well on every device. Details are in the LSFG-Android project README.
Android compatibility: check the phone, not just its Android version
The project README reports end-to-end frame generation on Adreno 7xx-class GPUs and newer. The 0.1.0 release notes list Android 10 or later, an arm64 device, Vulkan 1.2 or later, and required Vulkan extensions. The notes say a device without VK_EXT_robustness2 may fall back to capture-only mirror mode rather than full frame generation. These are project-maintained compatibility statements, not independent certification of individual phones. See the 0.1.0 release notes.

Android’s Vulkan support is not universal: having Android 7.0 or later does not by itself establish that a device supports Vulkan or the extensions this app needs. Android Developers also notes that Vulkan performance varies by GPU vendor and generation. Check the exact handset’s GPU, Vulkan driver, and extension support; the Android version or chipset family alone is not a compatibility guarantee. What setup involves
LSFG-Android is an unofficial project with a sideload workflow rather than a Google Play installation. Its documented setup requires the user to provide a Lossless.dll from a legitimately purchased copy of Lossless Scaling; the Android project says it does not bundle or distribute that file. The project also says its app license bars commercial use.

- Confirm the device meets the project’s Android, arm64, GPU, Vulkan, and extension requirements.
- Sideload the project’s APK and grant permission to display over other apps.
- If needed, enable the optional touch-passthrough accessibility service.
- Provide your own Lossless.dll, then select the game or other target app.
- At the beginning of each capture session, approve the MediaProjection screen-capture prompt.
What frame generation changes—and what it does not
The main potential benefit is smoother-looking motion when the game’s rendered frame rate and display refresh rate leave room for generated frames. But interpolation does not increase the game’s underlying update rate. Controls therefore do not become equivalent to playing at the displayed total FPS, and generated images can have artifacts. Judge the result by both the apparent motion and how the game feels to control.
The Android project estimates that its capture-and-overlay approach adds about 50–80 ms of latency compared with its Linux Vulkan-layer approach. This is the project’s estimate, not an independently measured result, and the comparison is specifically against that Linux method—not a universal latency figure for Android gaming. The added delay is a significant trade-off for fast-response games or players sensitive to input lag.

For context, Android’s platform guidance emphasizes proper frame pacing for high-quality gameplay and points game developers to Android’s Frame Pacing library. That is general development guidance, not an endorsement or performance test of LSFG-Android.

- Verify compatibility first: check the specific phone’s GPU, Vulkan driver, and required extensions against the project’s current documentation.
- Keep the rates separate: compare the game’s real FPS with total FPS after interpolation, rather than treating generated FPS as extra game-rendered frames.
- Consider the display: refresh rate affects how many frames the screen can show; the vendor’s 60-FPS/120-Hz recommendation is a quality target, not a promise for all games or Android setups.
- Weigh responsiveness: smoother motion may not compensate for the project’s stated additional latency, particularly in games where precise timing matters.
- Account for the workflow: installation involves sideloading, recurring capture consent, overlay permissions, and a separately obtained Lossless.dll.
The project documentation does not establish a representative handset compatibility rate or independent benchmark results. Actual results should therefore be treated as device- and game-specific rather than assumed from the project’s stated working GPU tier.
