Start by identifying where the alert comes from: a phone app mirrored to the wearable, a wearable setting, or a manufacturer-specific system alert. Then change the narrowest setting that solves the problem—usually notifications for one app or category. Use Focus or Do Not Disturb when you want a broader quiet period. Exact menus vary by device, phone, and operating system.
First identify the source of the interruption
Notice what happens when an alert arrives: does it match a phone notification, appear only on the wearable, or sound like a device-status warning? This distinction matters. Turning off a glasses system alert may not stop messages mirrored from your phone, and silencing a watch may affect more alerts than you intend.
- A specific app is interrupting you: Look for that app in the phone’s notification settings or the wearable companion app. If available, disable only the category or channel that is disruptive.
- You want quiet for a while: Use Focus, Do Not Disturb, or the wearable’s silence controls. These are broader than blocking one app.
- The alert concerns the wearable itself: Check the manufacturer’s system-alert settings. Device alerts and phone notifications may have separate controls.
Choose a control that matches the problem

How do I stop my watch from buzzing for every phone alert?
Wear OS watches
Google’s instructions allow selected apps to be blocked through the Wear OS app or, on some devices, the device’s companion app. Open the notification settings and look for app controls; some devices call the option “Filter watch notifications.” Because menus differ by manufacturer, use the companion app if the Wear OS app does not show the setting. To restore alerts later, unblock the app in the same companion-app notification settings. Google’s instructions for silencing or unblocking watch notifications cover these controls.
For a broader quiet period, use Do Not Disturb on the watch or phone where supported. Google also documents “Silence phone while wearing watch” in the companion app. Some watches offer Cinema mode, which temporarily turns off the display and prevents notifications from showing when you move or tap the watch. These modes have different effects: app blocking filters a source, while quiet modes apply more broadly. Google notes, “If you don’t want to receive any notifications on your watch, turn on ‘Do not disturb’ on your phone.”

Apple Watch
For a specific app, open the Watch app on your iPhone and manage the app’s notification settings. Apple says iPhone notification settings generally apply to the corresponding apps on Apple Watch. You can also swipe left on an arriving notification to access options such as “Mute 1 Hour” and “Turn off Time Sensitive.” See Apple’s Apple Watch notification guidance.
For a quiet period, use Focus or a silence mode from Control Center. To mute an alert as it arrives, cover the display for at least three seconds; Apple also describes a wrist flick to mute and dismiss notifications. Some alerts can still be exceptions: Apple says Time Sensitive notifications may break through Focus or scheduled delivery, and Critical alerts can override Ring/Silent when an app has the required entitlement. No single quiet setting should be assumed to block every alert. Apple’s notification guidance describes four interruption levels and advises developers not to use high urgency for low-priority information.

How do I turn off notifications on my smart glasses?
Ray-Ban Meta glasses
Open the Meta AI app, go to Settings > System Alerts, and adjust the available preferences. Meta’s FAQ distinguishes push notifications about the glasses—such as low-storage warnings sent to the phone lock screen—from system sounds. It says system sounds can be adjusted in volume but cannot be turned off there. This control does not establish that every phone message or call forwarded to the glasses will stop; manage those through the relevant phone or app notification settings. Android XR AI glasses
Android XR glasses use the standard Android notification framework, according to Android Developers. Check the paired phone’s notification settings for the relevant app and, if available, its notification channel. Check the phone’s Do Not Disturb settings for quiet periods. Then verify the corresponding options in the glasses’ current companion app, since the exact user-facing controls depend on the device. If alerts still come through
- Confirm which device is making the sound or vibration. The phone, watch, and glasses may each have separate notification controls.
- Check both app notifications and wearable settings. A phone app may mirror alerts even when a manufacturer system-alert preference is changed.
- Review exceptions in Focus or Do Not Disturb. Priority or time-sensitive alerts may behave differently from ordinary notifications.
- Look for the companion-app setting. Wear OS menus and available filters vary by watch maker, and Google directs users to the device companion app when applicable. Google’s troubleshooting guidance also explains how to unblock apps.
If you need an exact menu path, provide the wearable make and model and the paired phone model. There is no universal notification setting shared by all AI wearables.
