In iCloud.com Mail, enable the addresses you want to send from under Settings → Send From, then set a default. For a single message, select From while composing and choose another enabled address. The default applies unless you make a different choice for that message.

Set a default iCloud Mail sending address

Apple’s detailed menu instructions cover iCloud.com Mail. Use these steps to choose which addresses appear as senders and which one Mail selects automatically:

  1. Go to iCloud.com Mail and sign in.
  2. Open the Settings control above the mailbox list, then choose Settings.
  3. Open the email address section under Send From.
  4. Select each address you want to use for sending.
  5. Choose the preferred address under Default Send Address.
  6. Save your changes. The selected addresses should now be available in the sender menu when composing a new message.

Apple’s instructions are for the iCloud.com interface; the controls may differ in the Mail app on another device.

Choose an alias for one message

  1. Start composing a message in iCloud.com Mail.
  2. Select From.
  3. Choose the alias or other enabled address you want to use for this email.

Apple’s instructions for composing on iCloud.com say to select From to choose a different sending address. Your default remains in place for messages where you do not select another sender.

Apple iPhone 14, 128GB, Midnight - Unlocked (Renewed)
  • This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
  • Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
  • The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
  • Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.

Why an alias may not appear in the From menu

  • It is not enabled for sending: Return to Settings → Send From and select the address. Only selected sending addresses appear in the composition menu, according to Apple’s default sending address instructions.
  • You do not have an iCloud Mail alias: An alias is an alternate address attached to a primary iCloud Mail address, not a separate Apple Account. Apple requires a primary iCloud Mail address before you can create aliases.
  • You are using another device’s Mail app: Apple says aliases can send and receive on devices where Mail is turned on in iCloud settings, but its detailed menu steps here apply to iCloud.com. Device-specific controls can differ.

What to know before creating or changing aliases

Apple allows up to three @icloud.com aliases for an account. An alias’s label is used to list it in alias settings; its full name appears in the message’s From field. Alias messages arrive in the primary inbox by default. Apple also says aliases cannot be changed, transferred, or converted into primary accounts. See Apple’s alias setup and management guidance.

If you already have three aliases and delete one, Apple says you must wait seven days before creating a replacement. Legacy users who retained five MobileMe aliases have different replacement limits, so deletion does not guarantee that every account can immediately refill a slot.

Disable an alias or delete it?

Disabling is reversible; deleting is permanent. In either case, Apple says messages sent to that disabled or deleted address are returned to the sender. Update important contacts before taking either action. If you only want to stop using an alias as the sender for new messages, change the default or deselect it from the sending addresses instead of disabling or deleting it.
