Start with the problem you want to solve: improve readability, reduce choppy performance, spend less time watching animations, adjust challenge, or protect your progress. Change only a few settings at a time and check the result; menu names and available options vary by game and platform.
1. Fix readability and camera comfort first
If text or icons are hard to read, or the camera moves uncomfortably, check interface and accessibility options before lowering visual quality. Look for text or UI scaling, contrast and color choices, camera or panning speed, and control remapping.
Age of Empires IV, for example, documents HUD and in-game menu text scaling from 100% to 150%, a Strong Contrast mode, remappable keys, and adjustable camera panning speed. Those are features of that game, not a guarantee that other 4X titles offer the same controls. Age of Empires IV accessibility features
2. If performance is poor, lower visual detail selectively
When the game visibly struggles, test graphics options that govern detail rather than changing every setting at once. Age of Empires IV support specifically recommends trying lower Image Quality, Lighting Quality, Texture Detail, and Geometry Detail. Some graphics changes may need to be made outside a match and may require restarting the application. Age of Empires IV performance guidance

- 【INTEGRATED SPEAKERS】Whether you're at work or in the midst of an intense gaming session, our built-in speakers provide rich and seamless audio, all while keeping your desk clutter-free.
- 【EASY ON THE EYES】 Protect your eyes and enhance your comfort with Blue-Light Shift technology. This feature reduces harmful blue light emissions from your screen, helping to alleviate eye strain during long hours of use and promoting healthier viewing habits.
- 【WIDEN YOUR PERSPECTIVE】Our sleek minimal bezel design ensures undivided attention. The nearly bezel-free display seamlessly connects in a dual monitor arrangement, delivering an unobstructed view that lets you focus on more at once, completely distraction-free.
Performance can also depend on what is happening in the match, not only the graphics preset. Age of Empires IV support warns: “The larger the map and higher the population, the more it will tax your computer and the computers of other players in your match.” That guidance is specific to Age of Empires IV; the impact of maps, units, and simulation workload differs across games.
Check resolution only when it makes sense
Age of Empires support says a display resolution higher than the computer’s recommended option may affect frame rate. Treat resolution as a targeted test, not an automatic first change: reducing it can make strategy-game text and interface elements less legible. Age of Empires optimization tips

- QHD Resolution (2560 x 1440) has 1.7 times the pixel density of Full HD for incredibly detailed pinsharp images
- HDR10 provides brighter highlights and nuanced shadow for added depth - making every scene feel more vivid and realistic
- The 180Hz refresh rate minimizes lag for gameplay with ultra-smooth action. Plus, the 1ms response time helps capture your moves in real-time, allowing you to react fast for gaming precision
- AMD FreeSync reduces choppiness, screen lag and image tearing, ensuring that your fast-paced, complex in-game action is stable with minimal stutter
- Ergonomic stand allows for tilt, pivot and height adjustments to maximize gaming comfort
3. Shorten animation waits without confusing them with performance fixes
If turns feel slow because you are waiting for units or battles to play out, look for movement and combat animation options. The Civilization VI manual describes Quick Movement and Quick Combat as options for speedy unit-movement and combat animations. These change how long animations take to watch; they are not evidence of a higher frame rate or a fix for graphics slowdown. Civilization VI manual
4. Choose game speed for the kind of session you want
Game speed affects the pace of play and can change the timing or costs of decisions, not just the time spent watching animations. Age of Empires support describes speed options for single-player and multiplayer. In Age of Wonders 4, the developer explains that Slow speed raises knowledge costs for research skills and food costs for population growth. Those mechanics are game-specific, so check the selected game’s description before starting. Age of Empires optimization tips · Age of Wonders 4 developer diary on victory conditions and realm setup

5. Set learning support and challenge
If you are new to a game or campaign, check for a tutorial, advisor, or difficulty choice before committing to a long session. The Civilization VI manual says its Tutorial setting controls the level of Advisor feedback. Age of Empires IV documents four campaign difficulty options, including Story mode for players seeking less challenge. Whether a difficulty can be changed after a campaign starts depends on the game and mode. Civilization VI manual · Age of Empires IV accessibility features

If losing progress is a concern, look for autosave frequency and how many saves the game retains. Civilization VI lets players set the number of turns between autosaves and the number of autosaves to keep. There is no universal best interval: choose one that fits your session length and how much progress you are willing to replay after an interruption. Civilization VI manual
