Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Compare specific Intel and AMD processor models using the same workloads, comparable test systems, and current total build costs—not a single advertised percentage or universal “winner.” A benchmark only describes the conditions under which it was run. The right CPU depends on how you use your computer, what the rest of the system costs, and which trade-offs matter to you.
Start with the work you actually do
Before looking at scores, list the games and applications you care about. A result from one game or productivity test does not automatically predict performance in another. Give the most weight to tests that resemble your own workload, and look for results across more than one relevant application or game.
- Gaming: Compare results in the games you play and check resolution and graphics settings. A test can highlight CPU differences when the graphics card is not the limiting component; at settings where the GPU is the bottleneck, CPU gaps may be less visible.
- Productivity: Match tests to your work, such as the applications and tasks you use. A result in one program is not a general measure of every creative or professional workload.
- Mixed use: Consider both gaming and application results rather than allowing one standout benchmark to decide the purchase.
Intel recommends comparing benchmark results across sources in its guidance on finding processor performance information. Use that alongside independent reviews, not as a substitute for checking what each test measured.
Check how each benchmark was run
A fair comparison depends on more than the processor names. Read the test setup and confirm that the results represent comparable conditions. Intel’s Performance Index documentation notes that reasonable choices about system configuration, workloads, and measurement methodology can affect benchmark results. It also says the index does not provide testing information for every public performance or power claim. Intel’s Performance Index documentation is useful context, but it cannot validate every claim made elsewhere.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
For each result, check:
- Benchmark and version: Which benchmark, application, or game produced the score, and which software version was used?
- System configuration: Were memory, cooling, firmware, and other major components comparable?
- Power limits and operating conditions: Were the processors tested under comparable limits and conditions, and does the review report sustained performance as well as short bursts?
- Hardware status: Was the result measured on shipping hardware, or estimated using a reference platform, simulation, or modeling? Intel’s methodology documentation notes that reference platforms or simulation and modeling may be used when consumer products cannot be tested before launch.
- Gaming settings: What resolution and graphics settings were used, and could the GPU have limited the result?
- Repeatability: Is the finding part of a pattern across multiple tests and independent sources, or a single score?
AMD’s discussion of competitive performance claims also emphasizes benchmark kits, audit methods, and review processes. The practical takeaway is to inspect the evidence behind a claim rather than treating a percentage as self-explanatory.
Compare performance with power and efficiency
Peak performance is only one part of the decision. Look at power consumption alongside the work completed, especially if you care about heat, noise, sustained workloads, or operating costs. A faster result under one test setup may involve different power limits or cooling conditions from another result, so those details belong with the score.

Efficiency is meaningful only when the performance and power measurements are comparable: the workload, system configuration, and measurement conditions should align. Avoid inferring that one CPU is more efficient from a performance score alone or from a power figure measured in a different scenario.
Compare the full platform cost and compatibility
Compare the cost of a usable system, not just the CPU’s listed price. The processor may require a compatible motherboard and cooler, and platform features or component compatibility can change which build makes sense. Check the specific processor’s socket and chipset support against the motherboard you plan to use, along with the features you need.

Prices, stock, product lineups, and platform support can change. Verify current pricing and compatibility for the exact models and components before buying; a benchmark comparison cannot establish today’s retail value or guarantee future platform support.

Turn the evidence into a buying decision
- Shortlist exact CPU models. Avoid comparing broad brand claims when the purchase is between specific processors.
- Choose relevant tests. Include the games and applications that reflect your actual use.
- Inspect the test conditions. Check versions, settings, system configuration, power limits, and whether results are measured or estimated.
- Look for a consistent pattern. Use several relevant results from credible independent sources, alongside vendor disclosures where helpful.
- Weigh performance against power. Consider sustained behavior and the cooling and noise trade-offs that matter to your system.
- Calculate the platform total. Add compatible motherboard and cooling costs, and verify socket, chipset, and required features.
- Choose based on your priorities. A CPU that leads one benchmark is not automatically the better fit for your games, applications, budget, or build.
