For a documented consumer example, Meta announced QR-based UPI Lite payments on Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) in India. The feature uses a spoken command and a WhatsApp-linked bank account, but Meta described it as testing or forthcoming—not as a generally available service. The announcement does not establish NFC tap-to-pay or broad support for bank cards.
Which smart glasses support hands-free payments?
In the official product announcements reviewed, Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) is the one clearly documented smart-glasses model paired with a specific consumer payment workflow. Meta described the feature for India’s UPI Lite system. No comparable alternative is established by the available primary-source material, so other glasses should not be treated as payment-capable merely because they have a camera, voice assistant, display, or app access.
How the Ray-Ban Meta payment flow is supposed to work
Meta’s October 14, 2025 announcement says the wearer can look at a QR code and say, “Hey Meta, scan and pay.” Meta describes the payment as a UPI Lite transaction processed through a WhatsApp-linked bank account, with no need to reach for a phone or wallet during the interaction. Meta’s India feature announcement describes the feature as being tested and mentions payments under 1,000 rupees; that threshold is part of the test description, not a verified universal or current payment limit.
Meta’s December 2025 Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) India launch post repeats the voice-command QR workflow and identifies the Gen 2 glasses. Together, the posts document a camera-assisted QR scan initiated by voice—not a general-purpose contactless payment feature.

What the announcement does—and does not—establish
- Payment rail: UPI Lite through a QR code, not documented NFC or card-wallet tap-to-pay.
- Market: India; the announcement should not be generalized to other countries or payment systems.
- Account: Meta says the flow uses a WhatsApp-linked bank account. The posts do not establish support for every bank or UPI account.
- Availability: Meta used testing or forthcoming language. The announcements do not confirm current enrollment, general release, or which configurations can use it.
- Authorization and compatibility: The cited posts do not comprehensively explain payment confirmation, merchant compatibility, setup requirements, or all connectivity dependencies.
Check Meta’s current eligibility and rollout details before buying glasses specifically for payments. A product being available for sale does not prove that its payment feature is available to a particular user.
Are RayNeo, Rokid, or other smart glasses alternatives?
Not on the evidence established here. RayNeo’s X3 Pro product page describes AI and AR features and app access, but does not document a payment workflow. References to payment ecosystems such as Alipay, or to other glasses brands, are not enough to confirm support without a primary source identifying the exact model, market, payment rail, authorization steps, and availability.

When evaluating another model, look for those specifics in the manufacturer’s current documentation. Voice control, QR recognition, or access to a payment app alone does not show that glasses can complete a payment hands-free.

How to compare payment features before choosing
- Payment method: Is it QR and UPI, or NFC and a wallet or card token?
- Interaction: Does the wearer use voice and camera, a gesture, or physical contact?
- Region and eligibility: Which country, banks, accounts, and users are supported?
- Approval and security: What confirms the amount and recipient, and what action authorizes payment?
- Phone and connectivity: What setup, paired-device, or network dependencies remain, even if a phone is not needed during the scan?
- Rollout: Is the payment feature generally released, limited to a test, or still forthcoming?
