To clean an induction rice cooker, unplug it, let it cool completely, and wash only the parts its manual says are removable. Descale only the location and parts addressed by your exact model’s instructions: vinegar or citric acid may be permitted for one cooker but prohibited on another cooker’s coated inner pot. There is no single descaling recipe that is safe for every model.
Clean the cooker without wetting its electrical body
- Unplug the cooker and let it cool completely. Do this before removing parts or wiping the appliance. Panasonic’s SRSSS185 Operations Instructions give the same direction for that model.
- Remove only user-removable parts. Depending on the model, these may include the inner pot, inner lid, steam cap or vent, and other accessories. Do not force off attached packing or seals; Panasonic warns against forcibly removing attached packing on the SRSSS185.
- Wash parts according to the manual. For example, Tiger’s JBX-A instructions specify mild dishwashing detergent for the inner pot, inner lid, and steam cap, followed by thorough rinsing and air-drying in a ventilated place.
- Wipe the main body carefully. Keep the body and electrical areas out of water unless the specific manual expressly permits washing them. Use the manual’s directions for the exterior and heating area.
- Dry and reinstall parts correctly. Let washed parts dry as directed, then put them back in their intended positions before using the cooker.
Find where the scale is before choosing a descaler
White deposits can be on the inner pot, in a steam generator, or in internal water passages. Those locations are not interchangeable: an approved soak for an inner pot is not automatically suitable for internal plumbing, and an appliance’s dedicated cleaning cycle should not be improvised on another model.
- Inner-pot deposit: Check the pot’s coating and the manual’s cleaning instructions first. Hitachi’s regional rice-cooker support guidance recommends a soft sponge and mild dish detergent for its fluorine-coated pot and says not to use vinegar on it.
- Steam-generator deposit: Check whether the maker specifies a dedicated cycle, cleaner, and rinse procedure. Aroma’s AMC-800 manual gives a specific steam-generator cleaning cycle.
- Internal plumbing deposit: Use a built-in descale cycle only if the model provides one and its manual describes the process. KitchenAid’s Grain and Rice Cooker has a model-specific DESCALE cycle for mineral deposits in its internal plumbing.
Follow the model-specific descaling method
Use an acid cleaner only when the manual for your exact model permits it, and follow its location, quantity, temperature, cycle, and rinsing directions. The examples below show why one recipe cannot be applied to every cooker.

Panasonic also advises users to remove the inner pot, steam vent, lid, and other removable parts for routine cleaning, while consulting the operating manual for additional instructions. That general guidance does not override a model’s specific restrictions on coatings, seals, or internal components.

If deposits remain or the manual is unclear
- Do not increase the cleaner concentration, extend a soak, or run a cleaning cycle that the manufacturer has not specified.
- Do not use vinegar or citric acid on a coated inner pot unless the exact manual permits it.
- If scale is inside a non-removable area, or the approved cleaning procedure does not resolve it, contact the manufacturer or an authorized service provider for model-specific advice.
