Choose between them by checking the exact regional model, the refresh-rate and HDMI features your devices can use, HDR format preferences, and independent tests of the 48-inch versions—not just the specifications or reviews for larger models.
Start with the exact 48-inch model
TV families can vary by screen size and market. LG’s UK product page identifies its 48-inch C5 as model OLED48C55LA. Samsung’s US page lists a 48-inch S90F for 2025. Before buying, match the product code on the retailer listing to the manufacturer’s local page; do not assume a specification or test result for a larger screen applies to the 48-inch version.
Compare the gaming connections and refresh features

A TV’s maximum refresh rate is not the same as the frame rate a console or PC will deliver. Check the output modes supported by your device and the games you play. For a PC, confirm that its graphics hardware and chosen resolution can make use of high-refresh input; for a console, the console’s own output limit determines what reaches the TV.
Count the connections you need at once
List the devices that will stay connected: for example, a console, gaming PC, and receiver or soundbar. Both manufacturers describe four high-bandwidth HDMI inputs on the versions referenced above, but check the local specifications and the position of eARC if your audio equipment needs it. HDMI 2.1 labeling alone does not tell you whether a particular port layout suits your setup.

Choose by HDR format only if it matters to your games
HDR format support can distinguish these models. The cited buying-guide result describes Dolby Vision gaming on the C5, while Samsung emphasizes HDR10+ and its gaming features. The exact format support should be checked against the regional product code and current manufacturer information; the available evidence does not establish a universal format specification for every market variant. Format support is one part of HDR, not a verdict on picture quality. If Dolby Vision gaming is important to you, verify that the specific C5 listing supports it. If you are considering the S90F, check the local model’s supported HDR formats and the HDR formats used by your games and other sources.

Use reviews of the 48-inch version, not the family headline
Look for independent measurements and observations that explicitly identify the 48-inch unit. This matters particularly for brightness, HDR behavior, color, panel characteristics, and input lag. A comparative review notes that some S90F sizes use a quantum-dot-enhanced variant, so figures reported for those sizes should not be treated as measurements of the 48-inch model. Comparative review
LG advertises a 0.1ms pixel response time for the C5. That is a manufacturer specification for pixel response, not an independent input-lag measurement. Match the TV to your setup before deciding
For console gaming
- Check that the TV’s inputs support the console’s desired resolution, refresh rate, and VRR mode.
- Compare the console’s output limits with the TV’s advertised maximum; a higher TV ceiling does not increase the console’s frame rate.
- Consider HDR format support only after confirming which formats your console and games use.
For PC gaming
- Check that your graphics card can output the resolution and refresh rate you intend to use.
- Confirm the TV’s local-model VRR and sync compatibility against your PC setup.
- If connecting a receiver or soundbar, confirm eARC port placement and leave enough suitable HDMI inputs for your other devices.
If it will also serve as a desktop display
Think about desk depth, viewing distance, text-heavy work, and how much time static interface elements will remain onscreen. The sources cited here do not establish model-specific text rendering, PC chroma behavior, or burn-in risk for these 48-inch versions. Look for tests that address those questions before treating either TV as a verified monitor substitute.
