To use Sony headphones with two devices at once, pair them with both devices, turn on Connect to 2 devices simultaneously in the Sony headphones app, then connect the second device from the app’s device controls. This is Sony’s multipoint feature, and it works only on supported models: Sony limits multipoint to two connected devices at a time.
Check whether your Sony headphones support multipoint
Pairing and multipoint are different. A headset can remember several paired devices but still connect to only one source at a time. Before following the steps below, look in the Sony headphones app for Connect to 2 devices simultaneously, or check your model’s Sony Help Guide. Sony also provides model-specific multipoint instructions for the WH-1000XM5.
If the two-device option is missing, your model may not support multipoint. You can still use it with different sources, but you may need to disconnect from one device before connecting from another.
Connect Sony headphones to two devices
- Pair the headphones with both source devices. Turn on Bluetooth on each device and select the headphones in its Bluetooth settings. If Sony’s model instructions distinguish the headphone name from a similarly named LE entry, select the actual headphone model name.
- Connect the headphones to the first device. Open Sony | Sound Connect, or Sony | Headphones Connect on models that use the older app name. In the app, enable Connect to 2 devices simultaneously. The exact menu labels can vary by model and app version; consult your model’s Help Guide if you cannot find the control. See Sony’s multipoint setup guidance.
- Add the second device in the app. Open the connected-device controls, select the second device from the paired-device list, and check that both sources appear as connected.
- Choose which source to hear. Start playback on the desired device. If audio stays on the first source, pause or stop its playback before starting audio on the second.
Sony’s general instruction is that “Multipoint connection works with only two devices at a time.” A third device cannot join the same multipoint session; connecting it may displace one of the two current connections. See Sony Support’s article on connecting headphones to two devices simultaneously.

Set up common device combinations
Phone and computer
Pair both devices, enable the two-device setting, and select the computer from the app’s connected-device controls. If the computer shows as connected but you hear no sound, check that the computer’s audio output is set to the Sony headphones.
Two Android phones
Sony’s procedure lets you assign call audio to one phone and media audio to the other by changing the relevant audio options in each phone’s Bluetooth settings. The specific controls depend on the phone’s Android version and manufacturer.

Android phone and iPhone
Set up the Android phone first, and disable one audio function there before connecting the iPhone for the other function. Sony notes that an iPhone cannot be limited to just one of those audio functions in the described setup. Follow the model-specific steps in Sony’s multipoint instructions.
Fix switching or connection problems
The second device connects, but there is no sound
- Confirm that Connect to 2 devices simultaneously is enabled.
- Pause or stop playback on the first device, then start playback on the second.
- If audio still will not switch, close the music app on the first device. Sony notes that silent streaming can keep the headphones tied to that source. See Sony’s multipoint troubleshooting guidance.
- For a computer, verify that the Sony headphones are selected as its active audio output.
The headphones will not connect to the device you want
Start the Bluetooth connection manually from the source device’s Bluetooth settings. If that does not work, use the model-specific Help Guide for further steps. Initializing the headphones resets settings and deletes pairing data, so treat it as a later troubleshooting option rather than a first step. Sony’s guidance for connecting after pairing with several devices is available here.

If your model does not have a two-device option
A model that supports pairing with multiple devices may still allow only one active connection. In that case, disconnect the headphones from the current source, then connect them from the source you want to use. The exact procedure depends on the headset and source-device operating system; consult the model Help Guide for its Bluetooth connection steps.
