No: existing Polymarket positions are not automatically being converted into positions under Protocol V2 contracts. The rollout reported in October 2026 is starting with canary markets and is planned for future new markets. That does not mean existing bets disappear; it means position continuity and migration to a new contract are separate questions.
What happens to existing Polymarket bets?
As of October 7, 2026, available reporting says existing positions remain on the current system rather than automatically moving to Protocol V2 contracts. The Block reported that Polymarket had begun production canary markets using a redesigned smart-contract system, with a tentative transition to Protocol V2 for net-new markets on November 2 after canaries through October 30. Those dates are a reported plan, not a guaranteed completion date. The Block’s October 6 report
The reporting does not say that existing positions are lost. It also does not establish a general future conversion or migration process for legacy positions. Check Polymarket’s current notices for updates as the rollout develops.
Protocol V2 is different from the April CLOB V2 upgrade
Both upgrades use the label “V2,” but they refer to different parts of Polymarket. CLOB V2 was an exchange infrastructure cutover; Protocol V2 is a redesigned market-contract system. The April migration’s documented treatment of positions and orders should not be mistaken for a promise that October’s Protocol V2 rollout will move existing positions.

Positions, open orders, and collateral are not the same thing
Positions
A position is a bet you already hold in a market. For the April CLOB V2 cutover, Polymarket’s help article says: “Positions in active markets carry over and resolve normally.” That statement concerns the CLOB upgrade, not an automatic move into Protocol V2 contracts.

Resting orders
An open limit order is an instruction waiting in the order book; it is not the same as a filled position. During the April cutover, Polymarket cleared pre-cutover orders. Its migration guide states: “Open orders from before the CLOB V2 cutover were wiped. If you had resting V1-era orders, they did not migrate and must be re-created with V2 order signing.” If an order was still resting then, users had to place it again if they wanted to keep seeking a fill.
Collateral and API changes
The April CLOB migration also introduced pUSD collateral and changed trading integrations. The website handled wrapping pUSD with a one-time approval; API traders and builders needed to switch to the V2 SDK or update raw order signing. Those are exchange and trading-access requirements, not evidence that existing market positions needed to be migrated.

What should you do now?
- If you hold an existing position, do not assume it has been moved to a Protocol V2 contract. The available October reporting says positions remain on the existing system.
- If you are checking an unfilled order, distinguish it from a position. The documented order cancellation happened during the April CLOB V2 cutover; the October Protocol V2 reporting does not specify what will happen to resting orders.
- If you trade through an API or build on Polymarket, follow the CLOB V2 migration guide for its exchange and signing requirements rather than treating them as a position migration.
- For later Protocol V2 changes, rely on current Polymarket announcements: the reported November 2 timing was tentative, and future handling of older positions is not established here.
