Back up NBA 2K25 through the cloud-save system for the platform account you use to play, then verify that a recent backup exists. This can help restore supported save data, but it cannot keep MyCAREER or MyTEAM available after 2K retires the game’s online services on December 31, 2026. Starting January 1, 2027, those modes will be unavailable.
What changes when NBA 2K25’s servers shut down?
NBA 2K Support says the game’s online services are scheduled to retire on December 31, 2026. Beginning January 1, 2027, multiplayer and other online modes will no longer be accessible, MyCAREER and MyTEAM will no longer be available, and players will no longer be able to earn Virtual Currency (VC). The notice was published September 3, 2026, and updated October 2, 2026: NBA 2K25: Server Sunset.
Existing owners can still redownload the game and play offline modes. NBA 2K Support lists Play Now, MyNBA, The W, and MyWNBA as available after retirement; server-dependent features such as multiplayer, Online Leagues, and community sharing will not work. The 2K Online Services Status page also lists offline modes including Play Now, MyNBA/MyLeague/MyGM, 2KU/Learn 2K, MyWNBA, and The W.
Backing up saves and preserving access to online services are different things. A backup can help restore supported save data on the platform account that created it. It cannot keep 2K’s servers online or make MyCAREER playable after its announced retirement.

How do I back up my NBA 2K25 save?
2K’s Restoring Saves from the Cloud guide says saves are associated with the platform account used to play—not a 2K, NBA 2K, or SHiFT account. An internet connection is usually needed for cloud backup. Use the account that owns or plays the game, follow the platform steps below, and check the most recent backup or sync time. Menu labels can change.

Steam
- In Steam, open Settings > Cloud and enable Steam Cloud for supported applications.
- In your Library, open NBA 2K25’s Properties > General and confirm the cloud synchronization setting is enabled.
- Allow Steam to synchronize, then check the game’s cloud status before relying on the backup.
If you can access the local files, 2K documents a separate recovery route for missing MyPLAYER files. The files may appear as MyCAREER0000, with numbers varying by slot, in C:Program Files (x86)Steamuserdata(your account ID)(game ID)remote. Keep a separate copy of accessible files if you want an additional local backup; this is a Steam/PC procedure, not a general console export method.

Epic Games
- Open Epic Games Launcher > Settings.
- Enable Cloud Saves.
- Use Epic’s guidance linked from 2K’s cloud-save article if you need to locate local game-save files.
PlayStation 5
- For automatic syncing, open Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Saved Data (PS5) > Sync Saved Data > Auto-Sync Saved Data and enable it.
- For a manual upload, go to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Saved Data (PS5) > Upload or Delete from Console Storage > Upload to Cloud Storage.
- Confirm NBA 2K25’s save data is present in cloud storage and note the latest upload time.
2K says PlayStation Plus is required for PlayStation cloud saves.
PlayStation 4
- Open Settings > Application Data Management and enable automatic uploads for saved data.
- To upload manually, select Saved Data in System Storage > Upload to Online Storage.
- Check that NBA 2K25 appears among the uploaded saves and confirm the latest upload time.
2K says PlayStation Plus is required for PlayStation cloud saves.

Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S
2K says Xbox saves upload automatically while the console is connected to the Xbox network. To access the save on another console, sign in with the same Xbox profile. For save management, 2K’s restore guidance gives the path My games & apps > Manage game & add-ons > Saved data.
Nintendo Switch
- From the game’s software menu, select Save Data Cloud.
- Choose the user whose save you want to back up, then select Back Up Save Data.
- Alternatively, open System Settings > Data Management > Save Data Cloud, choose the user, and back up the NBA 2K25 save.
- Verify that the cloud save has completed.
2K says Nintendo Switch Online membership is required for cloud saves.

How do I restore a missing save or MyPLAYER?
Use the platform account that originally played NBA 2K25; 2K says the save is tied to that account. Restore or sync through the platform’s own save-data tools. On Xbox, sign in with the same profile; on PlayStation or Switch, use the platform’s cloud-save interface and membership where required.
For Steam only, 2K’s NBA 2K: Missing MyPLAYER guidance says backed-up MyCAREER files can be placed in the Steam userdata remote folder described above. Fully restart Steam and NBA 2K afterward. The folder path and file-copy procedure are PC-specific; 2K’s cited guidance does not establish a universal USB export/import method for consoles.

Can I still play MyCAREER after the servers shut down?
No. NBA 2K Support says: “MyCAREER and MyTEAM will no longer be available, and it will no longer be possible to earn Virtual Currency (VC).” A restored cloud save or separate local copy does not override that server-dependent restriction. For continued NBA 2K25 play after the cutoff, the officially listed offline alternatives are Play Now, MyNBA, The W, and MyWNBA, without their server-dependent features.
