1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesIf you can still find the Canon EOS R6 Mark II for $1,999, it is only $100 more than Canon’s announced $1,899 U.S. body price for the EOS R8 Mark II—and the R6 Mark II’s two card slots make that extra cost compelling for paid work. But the R6 II price is not a confirmed live deal: Canon’s displayed offer ended October 4, 2026. The R8 II, meanwhile, adds newer features and is designed to be Canon’s lightest EOS body with in-body stabilization. Choose based on the price you can actually buy at, your need for card redundancy, and whether portability or newer capture features matter more.
Are the R6 Mark II and R8 Mark II really only $100 apart?
That comparison applies only if the R6 Mark II is still available at $1,999. Canon U.S.A.’s R8 Mark II announcement gives an estimated U.S. body price of $1,899 and a price of $2,099 for the RF24-50mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM kit. Canon’s R8 shop listing showed the body as a preorder, with availability expected in late October 2026. Canon’s announcement and U.S. shop listing provide those figures and timing.
Canon’s R6 Mark II product listing displayed a $1,999 offer against a $2,299 regular price, but the listed offer ran from September 7 through October 4, 2026. A recent Digital Camera World price report also cited $1,999, but that does not establish that a particular U.S. retailer still has stock at that price. Check the seller’s current price and availability before treating the $100 gap as real. Canon’s R6 Mark II listing shows the offer dates.
| U.S. configuration | Price evidence | What the figure means |
|---|---|---|
| EOS R6 Mark II body | $1,999 | Canon listing’s offer price, displayed through October 4, 2026; not confirmed as a live offer on October 7. Canon listed $2,299 as the regular price. |
| EOS R8 Mark II body | $1,899 | Canon’s estimated U.S. retail price; the shop showed a preorder as of October 7, 2026. |
| EOS R8 Mark II with RF24-50mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM | $2,099 | Canon’s estimated U.S. kit price, not a body-only comparison. |
At those body prices, the difference is $100. The R8 II kit costs $200 more than its body price, so do not compare that kit figure with an R6 II body and call it an equivalent purchase. The announced R8 II price and late-October U.S. availability expectation are from Canon’s September 2026 announcement; the R6 II offer terms are on Canon’s listing.

What is the practical difference between them?
Both cameras are 24.2MP full-frame models, and Canon lists electronic-shutter shooting up to 40 frames per second for each. Those headline specifications do not create a clear resolution or maximum-burst advantage for one camera; the more useful distinctions are the R6 II’s two SD slots and the R8 II’s portability and newer capture options.
| Decision point | EOS R6 Mark II | EOS R8 Mark II |
|---|---|---|
| Resolution and sensor | 24.2MP full-frame CMOS. | 24.2MP full-frame CMOS. |
| Card slots | Two SD slots, both UHS-II compatible, according to Canon’s specification sheet. | One SD slot, as reported in TechRadar’s review. |
| Stabilization | Canon’s launch release rated IBIS at up to 8 stops under a stated CIPA condition using the RF24-105mm F4 L IS USM at 105mm. | 5-axis IBIS; Canon describes up to 7.5 stops at the center on its product material. |
| Fast capture | Up to 40 fps with electronic shutter, according to Canon’s launch release. | Up to 40 fps electronic shooting, plus optional pre-continuous stills recording of up to 20 frames before the shutter is fully pressed. |
| Video highlights | Canon documents internal 4K oversampled from 6K, 4K 59.94p, and external 6K RAW recording at launch. | Canon announces uncropped 6K-oversampled 4K 60p and uncropped Full HD 180p. |
| Body positioning | Higher-tier body positioning; an apples-to-apples weight comparison is not established by the cited specifications here. | Canon calls it the lightest EOS with IBIS and positions it as a compact body. |
The sensor, burst, video, and stabilization claims are manufacturer specifications, not results from a side-by-side independent test. Canon’s R6 II launch details are in its 2022 announcement and specification sheet; R8 II details are in its 2026 announcement. The stabilization figures use different stated conditions, so they should not be read as a direct, controlled ranking.

When is the R6 Mark II the better buy?
You need two card slots
The R6 II has two UHS-II-compatible SD slots; the R8 II is reported to have one. For assignments where you want to record a second copy in-camera, the R6 II has the clear practical advantage. Confirm that your chosen recording settings support the backup workflow you need, and budget for two suitable cards.
You value a more work-oriented body over the newest features
If the R6 II is genuinely $1,999 and the R8 II is $1,899, paying $100 more buys the R6 II’s second card slot and a camera introduced in 2022 with established hybrid features. Canon specifies internal oversampled 4K, external 6K RAW recording, Canon Log 3, and subject detection for the R6 II. Those specifications can matter to a stills-and-video workflow, but they are not proof that it will outperform the newer camera in every situation.

The R8 II is still preorder-only where you shop
As of October 7, 2026, Canon expected U.S. R8 II availability in late October and its store showed preorder status. If you need a camera before then, the R8 II’s advertised price does not make it an immediately available alternative. Verify local stock and delivery dates rather than assuming the announced launch window guarantees a particular retailer’s supply.
When should you choose the R8 Mark II instead?
You want the lighter, more travel-oriented body
Canon describes the R8 II as its lightest EOS camera with IBIS. That makes it the more direct fit if reducing the body’s carry burden is a priority. The cited material does not provide an apples-to-apples weight comparison here, so treat this as Canon’s product positioning rather than a precise weight difference. Also consider the weight of the lens you plan to use: a compact body alone does not make a complete kit light.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
You will use pre-continuous shooting
The R8 II’s optional pre-continuous stills mode can save up to 20 frames before you fully press the shutter. That feature is useful when a moment is hard to predict, such as a brief action peak. It is a specific R8 II advantage; the R6 II’s matching headline burst rate does not provide the same pre-shutter feature in the cited specifications.
You want newer connectivity or video modes
Canon’s R8 II announcement lists Wi-Fi 6, USB-C/HDMI streaming, live streaming support through Canon apps, uncropped 6K-oversampled 4K 60p, and uncropped Full HD 180p. These are meaningful if they match your workflow. Compare the actual recording mode, output, and connection you need rather than deciding from labels such as “newer” or “better video.”

How should you decide before buying?
- Check the live body prices and stock. Compare the R6 II body with the R8 II body, not with the R8 II kit. Treat $1,999 as a recent or expired-offer figure unless the seller confirms it now.
- Decide whether duplicate recording matters. If an in-camera second copy is important to your work, the R6 II’s two UHS-II SD slots are a concrete reason to favor it.
- Match features to your shooting. Favor the R8 II if its lighter-body positioning, up-to-20-frame pre-capture, or newer listed video and connectivity features solve a real need.
- Calculate the whole kit. Add the lenses, cards, batteries, and support gear you actually need. The R8 II body’s announced $1,899 price is not the same as its $2,099 kit price, and neither figure includes every accessory a particular workflow may require.
- Check timing. For a U.S. purchase on October 7, Canon’s stated late-October expectation and preorder listing mean the R8 II may not be available to take home immediately.
So, is the R6 Mark II hard to recommend?
Only conditionally. At a verified $1,999, it is a strong value alternative to a $1,899 R8 II for buyers who benefit from two card slots or prefer the R6 II’s established hybrid feature set. But the offer displayed by Canon had expired on October 4, and the R8 II has a genuine case for buyers who prioritize portability, pre-capture, or its newer announced features. The right recommendation changes with the actual checkout price and availability—not with a price comparison that may no longer exist.
