For most everyday clips, start with Normal Video at 4K and 24, 25, or 30 fps, then choose landscape or portrait before recording. Use 50 or 60 fps for smoother motion or footage you plan to slow down. Beyond that, set exposure, color, focus, and audio to match the scene and how much editing you intend to do. There is no universally best combination: DJI’s published specifications describe the camera’s options, not a test ranking one setup above the others.

Choose resolution and frame rate for the finished video

In Normal Video mode, the Osmo Pocket 3 supports 4K, 2.7K, and 1080p at 24, 25, 30, 48, 50, or 60 fps in 16:9. DJI also lists square and vertical formats. Choose the frame rate before recording: 24, 25, or 30 fps is a practical starting range for routine footage, while 50 or 60 fps can suit faster motion or clips you want to slow in editing. Match the choice to your intended delivery format.

DJI specifies 4K/120 fps and 1080p/240 fps for Slow Motion mode; 4K/120 fps is not a Normal Video frame-rate option. See the DJI product page and DJI support page for the device’s listed modes and specifications.

Set the orientation before you press record

Choose Landscape, Portrait, or Auto-Rotation in the camera settings according to where the clip will be watched. Once recording begins, orientation is locked for that clip, so decide whether you need a horizontal or vertical result first. DJI’s Osmo Pocket 3 FAQ covers orientation controls.

Decide whether exposure should be automatic or manual

Use Auto for changing or unpredictable light

Auto is the simpler starting point when you are moving between lighting conditions or do not want to adjust settings shot by shot.

Use manual exposure when consistency matters

For manual shutter speed and ISO on the camera, swipe left on the screen, tap PRO, select Exposure, and choose M. In DJI Mimo’s camera view, switch AUTO to M. Manual control can help keep exposure consistent across shots, but you need to monitor changing light and adjust as needed. DJI documents the controls in its FAQ.

Choose a color profile for your editing workflow

  • Normal color: A straightforward choice if you want footage that needs little color work.
  • D-Log M: Choose this flatter, lower-contrast profile when you plan to grade footage and want more room in post-production. DJI describes D-Log M as designed to capture a wider dynamic range; that is the manufacturer’s product description, not independent proof that every clip will look better. DJI says D-Log M is not a LUT. Its D-Log M-to-Rec.709 LUT can serve as a conversion starting point.
  • HLG: Choose this 10-bit HDR option when your editing and viewing workflow supports HDR.

DJI’s downloads page lists the User Manual v1.0 and D-Log M-to-Rec.709 LUT downloads, both dated 2023-10-25. Check DJI’s current materials for any later updates.

Match focus and tracking to the subject

The camera offers Single, Continuous, and Product Showcase focus options. Use the mode suited to whether your subject is still, moving, or an object being presented close to the camera. ActiveTrack can be started by double-tapping a subject, but DJI says it is unavailable in Low-Light, Panorama, Slow Motion, and Timelapse modes. If tracking matters for a shot, make sure the capture mode supports it before you begin. See the DJI FAQ for focus and mode details.

The Pocket 3 has three built-in microphones. In Pro mode, its directional audio choices are Front, Front and Back, and All; DJI lists All as the default when Pro mode is off. Select the pattern that suits where sound is coming from. For an external microphone, DJI documents USB-C digital microphone support or connection through a 3.5 mm port adapter. Consult DJI support for the camera’s audio details.

Use the specialist modes for time-based footage

For changing speed, interval, or camera position over time, the camera includes Hyperlapse, Timelapse, and Motionlapse. Hyperlapse settings include resolution, frame rate, and speed; Timelapse adds interval and duration; Motionlapse also allows waypoints. In Pro mode, a timelapse can save source stills alongside the video as Video + JPEG or Video + RAW. The DJI support page lists the available mode controls.
