Keep its vents and rear and bottom airflow areas clear, and avoid narrow or cramped spaces. Sony does not give a separate numerical clearance for every side of the PS5 Pro in that guide.
How much space should you leave?
Leave at least 10 cm (about 4 inches) between the PS5 Pro and a wall, as directed in Sony’s PS5 Pro Safety Guide. This is the guide’s stated minimum wall clearance—not a requirement that Sony specifies for every side of this model.
Sony’s engineering explanation says the PS5 Pro takes in and exhausts air through its rear and bottom surfaces. Keep those areas open rather than pressing the console against a surface or enclosing it tightly. In its PS5 Pro teardown, Shinya Tsuchida, PS5 Pro Mechanical Design Lead, said: “PS5 Pro is a high performing console, so it requires more air to cool it down.” That is engineering context, not an additional clearance measurement.
Which placements should you avoid?
Sony warns against blocked vents and placing the console in a narrow or cramped space. The safety guide also cautions against covering it with cloth or placing it on long-fiber carpets or rugs. A setup that meets the 10 cm wall clearance may still be unsuitable if it blocks vents or restricts airflow around the rear or bottom.

- Open placement: Keep the rear and bottom airflow areas unobstructed, and maintain the minimum distance from the wall.
- Cramped enclosure: Avoid a narrow cabinet or other space that surrounds the console and restricts airflow.
- Covered or soft surface: Do not cover the console with cloth or place it on a long-fiber carpet or rug.
How does the PS5 Pro guidance differ from general PS5 guidance?
Sony’s general PS5 support article says to leave at least 10 cm of free space around each side. That wording appears in general PS5 support guidance, not in the PS5 Pro safety guide. For the Pro-specific instruction, follow the stated 10 cm wall clearance and Sony’s warnings about blocked vents and cramped placement; do not treat the general article’s wording as a PS5 Pro-specific measurement.
How should you keep the vents clear of dust?
Sony recommends removing dust buildup with a cleaning tool such as a handheld vacuum. The safety guide also says dust beneath the covers can be vacuumed. Follow the guide’s instructions for removing covers and cleaning, and treat vacuuming as maintenance—not a substitute for giving the console adequate space.
