Nintendo Australia estimates 26.8 GB. Both figures are storefront estimates, not confirmed installed-size measurements, and Nintendo says preorder details such as download size may change. Nintendo lists TV, tabletop, and handheld play, but its product pages do not document adjustable graphics or performance settings.
How big is Kingdom Hearts 2.8 on Switch 2?
Nintendo’s US product listing estimates the standalone Switch 2 digital release at 26.9 GB (Nintendo US listing). Nintendo Australia lists 26.8 GB (Nintendo Australia listing). The difference is small, but it is a reminder to check the eShop listing for your region rather than assume one figure applies everywhere.
These are estimates, not measurements of the final installed footprint. Nintendo’s US page cautions: “It’s possible that information related to the game, including ratings and download size, may not be finalized at time of preorder.” Check the live regional listing before downloading, particularly if you are preordering.
How much storage does Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 need?
For planning, use the estimate shown in your own regional Nintendo listing. The US page marks the standalone release as digital; it does not specify a required free-space reserve or recommend a storage expansion card. Check available console storage against the current estimate before starting the download.

#1 Best Overall
- Nintendo Switch 2 uses a new standard of expandable memory card called microSD Express (sold separately). This kind of memory card is needed for faster access speeds and to ensure games will run smoothly.
- Please note: Nintendo Switch 2 is only compatible with microSD Express cards. If the microSD cards you have used for Nintendo Switch do not support microSD Express standards, you cannot use them with Nintendo Switch 2.
Do not confuse it with the Switch Cloud Version
The previous Nintendo Switch Cloud Version is a separate product. Nintendo lists its client download at 77 MB and says an internet connection is required to play. That small client is for streamed play; it is not the download size of the native Switch 2 release. Nintendo says the Cloud Version is supported on Switch 2 and behaves consistently with Nintendo Switch (Nintendo Cloud Version listing).
| Version | What the listed size describes | Internet requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Standalone Switch 2 digital release | 26.9 GB estimated on Nintendo US; 26.8 GB estimated on Nintendo Australia | Not stated on the cited product listings |
| Nintendo Switch Cloud Version | 77 MB client download, per Nintendo | Internet connection required to play |
Can I change performance settings on Switch 2?
Nintendo lists TV, tabletop, and handheld modes for the Switch 2 release. Its official product pages reviewed here do not specify user-adjustable resolution, frame-rate, graphics-quality, or performance-mode settings. They also do not establish a tested resolution or frame rate. In practical terms, the listings confirm play modes, not a performance/quality toggle or particular performance result.

Which version can I buy, and when does it release?
Nintendo’s US listing gives an October 8, 2026 release date for the standalone Switch 2 digital game. Nintendo Australia’s page displays August 10, 2026; the official pages conflict, and the reason is not established. If you are outside the US, check your regional Nintendo store for its current date and availability.
The US standalone listing is digital. SQUARE ENIX also lists a physical Nintendo Switch 2 edition of KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III], a broader bundle containing HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX, HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind. That is a physical route that includes HD 2.8, not a standalone physical edition of HD 2.8. SQUARE ENIX says collection components are also available individually (SQUARE ENIX collection page).
