Can you play the original Switch Cloud Version on Switch 2?
Yes. Nintendo lists the original Cloud Version as supported on Switch 2, with behavior consistent with Nintendo Switch. It is a streamed version, not the dedicated Switch 2 digital release, and Nintendo explicitly says an internet connection is required. Its product page also recommends trying the free demo before purchase, though Square Enix says sales of the Cloud Version ended June 9, 2026.
Existing owners have a limited window: Square Enix schedules Cloud Version service to end at 14:59 UTC on June 9, 2027. After that point, the Cloud Version is not a durable way to access the game. Square Enix’s Cloud Version service notice.
