As of October 7, 2026, it is too early for a definitive value verdict: Nintendo UK lists the Switch 2 release for October 8, and a regional price and independent performance testing have not been established. The collection is most appealing if you specifically want Dream Drop Distance HD and the shorter 0.2 Birth by Sleep episode. If you own the previous Switch Cloud edition, check whether you qualify for Square Enix’s discount on the corresponding digital version before buying.
What do you get in HD 2.8?
This is a three-part collection, but it is not three full games. It combines a remastered game, a short playable episode, and a film. Square Enix presents the collection as leading into KINGDOM HEARTS III.
- KINGDOM HEARTS Dream Drop Distance HD: A full-HD remaster of the portable game originally released in 2012. Sora and Riku take the Mark of Mastery exam.
- KINGDOM HEARTS 0.2 Birth by Sleep – A fragmentary passage –: A short playable episode following Aqua, set after Birth by Sleep and linking to KINGDOM HEARTS III. Square Enix describes it as “A completely new playable episode that takes place after the storyline of KINGDOM HEARTS Birth by Sleep and links to the story of KINGDOM HEARTS III.”
- KINGDOM HEARTS χ Back Cover: An HD movie about the Foretellers and the series’ early history, not another playable game.

Is the Switch 2 edition available yet?
At the time of writing, October 7, 2026, Nintendo UK lists the release date as October 8, 2026. That is a next-day release listing, not confirmation that the game is already available. Square Enix lists digital and physical purchase options for HD 2.8, but a verified Switch 2 price for your region is not established here. Check your local eShop or retailer listing before deciding whether the value works for you.

Should you buy HD 2.8 on its own or in a collection?
Square Enix also lists the larger KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III], which includes HD 2.8 alongside HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX and KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind. If you are considering that bundle, account for the overlap: buying HD 2.8 separately as well would duplicate its content. Compare the displayed regional prices and choose the option that covers the games you actually want.
What if you own the old Switch Cloud version?
The previous Nintendo Switch edition is a Cloud Version and requires an internet connection to play, according to Nintendo’s product page. Square Enix says its Switch Cloud titles stopped being sold on June 9, 2026, and are scheduled to remain playable until June 9, 2027. It also says eligible owners can transfer Cloud save data to the Switch 2 digital version.
