Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsStart by noting the device, any exact Netflix error code or message, whether the screen is black with or without sound, and whether one title or every title fails. Try another title and, if possible, Netflix on another device using the same network. Those checks help tell a title-specific problem from a device or connection issue.
First, narrow down what is failing
Before changing settings, identify the pattern. Netflix’s troubleshooting index lets you search for an exact error code or message and find instructions for the affected platform.
- One title fails, but other titles play: Treat it as a possible title-specific issue and use the reporting steps below.
- All titles fail on one device: Focus on that device, its Netflix app, or its connection.
- Netflix fails on several devices on the same network: Check the network and internet connection.
- Black screen with sound: On a TV or TV-connected player, check the device and video connection.
- Black screen without sound: Use Netflix’s separate, device-specific troubleshooting flow; HDMI checks are not relevant to every phone or computer.
Also note whether playback buffers, freezes, or returns to the title description. Netflix has separate guidance for playback that stops and returns to the title description.
If Netflix keeps buffering or loading slowly
Netflix says slow loading or buffering may mean the device has a weak or unstable internet connection, or that it needs an update. Its buffering instructions vary by device, so select the steps for the platform you are using.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Check whether the network permits Netflix. Public networks may block video services. On a private network, check the connection against Netflix’s current recommended speeds. For computers and mobile devices, Netflix suggests checking with Fast.com and comparing the result with its recommendations. The recommendations can change; do not treat a speed threshold as a guarantee that playback will work.
- Restart the affected device. Apply any operating-system update called for in Netflix’s instructions for that device.
- Restart the home network. Turn off the affected device. Unplug the modem and router, wait 30 seconds, then plug them back in. Wait about one minute for the network to reconnect before retrying Netflix. Some equipment takes longer to come back online.
- Improve the Wi-Fi signal. Move the router and streaming device closer together—ideally into the same room. Put the router in an open, elevated location and away from other wireless devices or appliances.
- If the problem persists, contact your internet service provider. Explain whether it affects one or several devices and whether the affected device uses Wi-Fi or a wired connection. Netflix suggests checking Fast.com again before ending the troubleshooting conversation with your ISP.
These checks help distinguish a coverage or service problem from a device issue; they do not establish that you need a new router.
If a TV shows a black screen but you can hear sound
Netflix says this symptom can mean a problem with the device or video cable is preventing video from appearing. Follow its black-screen-with-sound steps for your TV or connected streaming device.

- Fully restart the TV-connected device using the instructions for that device.
- Check the HDMI connection at both ends. Reseat the cable, then try reversing its ends as Netflix suggests.
- If the issue affects only one show or movie while other titles play, report that title rather than treating the problem as a general device failure.
For a basic restart, Netflix’s TV and streaming-player support page says to make sure the device is fully off, leave it off for 15 seconds, then turn it on. Use the timer and procedure from the page that matches your problem rather than combining instructions from different troubleshooting flows.
If the screen is black or blank and there is no sound
Netflix provides a distinct black-screen-with-no-sound guide organized by device type, including smart TVs, streaming players, phones and tablets, and computers. Follow the section for your device; the cause and useful checks differ by platform.

For a TV-connected streaming player, check that the TV is set to the correct input and that its cables are secure. If those basic checks do not help, continue with the device-specific steps on Netflix’s page. HDMI is relevant to a TV connection, but it is not a universal fix for a phone, tablet, or computer.
If only one show or movie will not play
When other titles play normally, report the affected title through Netflix’s Viewing Activity flow: open Viewing Activity, find the title, and select “Report a Problem.” Netflix’s guidance for “We’re having trouble playing this title right now” and its broader video-issues guide distinguish a single-title problem from failures affecting all titles. If many titles fail, investigate the device or network instead.

If Netflix displays an error code
Search the exact code or message in Netflix’s error-code troubleshooting index, then use the instructions for your device. A few examples illustrate why the exact code matters:
- Service error (-2): Netflix describes this as a network-connectivity issue that prevents the device from reaching Netflix. See its instructions for error -2.
- Video error (1.1): Netflix says this Android error typically indicates that information stored on the device needs to be refreshed. See the device-specific steps.
- tvq-pb-101 (3.1.5): Netflix associates this code with stored device data interfering with playback. Follow its instructions for this error.
Do not clear app storage or reinstall Netflix casually. Those steps remove downloaded titles and sign you out, so have your Netflix password available before proceeding. Use them only when the instructions for your device call for them.
