An unofficial PS5 homebrew emulator port called ProsperoEden exists, but it requires a modified console and is experimental: results vary by game, firmware, and emulator build. For a dependable way to play authentic Switch games, use Nintendo Switch hardware.
What works—and what does not
A Switch game card or Nintendo game license does not turn into a PS5 game. PlayStation’s PS5 backward-compatibility guidance describes playing PS4 games on PS5; it does not document support for Nintendo Switch games. That is the limit of official compatibility, not proof that unofficial software could never run.

What ProsperoEden does—and its limits
ProsperoEden describes itself as an unofficial PS5 port of Eden, a Nintendo Switch emulator. Its documentation calls for homebrew installation on a modified console and game files supplied by the user. It is not a Sony feature, and its instructions and results may change as the project develops.
Reporting by Tom’s Hardware in late September 2026 described the emulator as early, with some games running while others performed poorly or failed. Firmware and emulator builds affect outcomes. A demonstration of one title—or a reported frame rate—does not establish how another game will run on your console or a later build.

Legal, platform, and warranty considerations
Emulation, use of a modified console, and obtaining or playing game files are distinct issues. The available official statements support specific cautions; they do not establish that every emulator or every personal-copy scenario is illegal everywhere.
Sony’s US PS5 software agreement
Sony’s US PS5 System Software License Agreement, version 1.12, restricts using unauthorized, illegal, counterfeit, or modified hardware or software with PS5 system software. It also restricts bypassing PS5 encryption, security, or authentication and using the system software to accept unauthorized, illegal, or pirated software or hardware. The agreement says the restrictions are construed to apply to the greatest extent permitted by the law in the user’s jurisdiction. Sony’s terms vary by region, so this US agreement is not a universal statement of local law.

Nintendo’s position on circumvention and unauthorized copies
Nintendo’s Intellectual Property & Piracy FAQ says uploading and downloading pirate copies of Nintendo games is illegal. It also describes products and software used to bypass Nintendo security to make, modify, or play unauthorized game files as circumvention products, and says importing, marketing, selling, or distributing them is illegal. These are Nintendo’s published positions, not a ruling that every emulator is unlawful in every country.
Nintendo warns that unauthorized products used to circumvent its security may damage Nintendo products without warranty coverage, reduce functionality such as online play, or leave a console unable to work after a network update. Those warnings concern Nintendo products and the circumvention context Nintendo describes; they are not a statement about PS5 hardware.

Homebrew risks and local law
ProsperoEden’s own disclaimer warns that running homebrew requires a modified console and may void its warranty, breach platform terms, or cause data loss. That is a project warning, not a legal determination. Copyright exceptions, backup rules, anti-circumvention law, warranty rules, and contract enforcement depend on country and circumstances. The official statements above do not decide whether a particular person’s use is lawful where they live.

If the goal is simply to play authentic Switch games, use Nintendo Switch hardware and obtain games through Nintendo’s supported channels, such as Nintendo eShop. A Nintendo Switch OLED is one hardware option, but it does not make Switch games compatible with PS5.
