Company Level opens additional fleet slots, and you can change ships while anchored in a city.
Choose ships for the job you need done
Uncharted Waters Origin distinguishes Adventure, Trade, and Combat specializations, and its ships are designed for different purposes. The official ship list includes Grade 1 examples: the Barque for Adventure, the Tallette for Trade, and the Hansa Cog for Combat. These are role examples, not a ranking of which ship is strongest. LINE Games’ ship reference and its guide to using ships explain the distinctions.
Start by deciding what you expect the fleet to do most. A ship that supports your current activity may be a better early choice than one that looks attractive on paper but does not fit your plans, mates, or available parts.
- Adventure: Favor ships suited to exploration and the tasks you undertake while adventuring.
- Trade: Consider ships suited to trading and the cargo demands of your routes.
- Combat: Build around the kind of naval fighting you expect, then account for the opponent’s ship type.
Use combat types and matchups before attacking
Combat ships specialize in Charging (ram), Artillery, Assault (melee), or Support. The three attacking types form a cycle: Charging beats Assault, Assault beats Artillery, and Artillery beats Charging. Support ships sit outside that cycle. Ships and mates also have advantageous traits, so check the matchup indicator before committing to an attack rather than assuming one attack type wins every fight. Add ships as Company Level opens fleet slots
Company Level determines how many ships you can assign to your fleet, so use the slots you have as progression makes them available. Consider whether you can support each addition with suitable mates and supplies as well as whether it serves the fleet’s activity. LINE Games’ Fleet Basics: The Company explains the progression link. The ship guide gives a later reference point of up to seven ships at Company Level 55; that is not an early-game target or a recommendation for how quickly to expand.
Place ships with the formation bonuses in mind
The default formation is available from the start. Its documented row effects are specific: the front line gets 5% more artillery defense, the middle line gets 5% more artillery accuracy, and the back line gets 5% more melee attack. These bonuses can guide placement, but they do not make the default arrangement automatically best for every fleet or opponent. Compare the ships you have, their roles, and the expected enemy matchup. LINE Games’ Fleet Basics guide describes the formation effects.
Rank #2
Assign mates to compatible cabins
Mates influence ship and fleet performance through their skills, effects, and expertise. Multiple mates with the same skill on a ship can raise that skill’s level. Cabin compatibility matters too: an incompatible assignment can reduce a mate’s expertise by up to 50%, according to LINE Games’ How to Use Ships guide.
Before setting out, check the ship or fleet information screens to confirm that each mate’s cabin assignment is compatible and that the mate’s skills support the ship’s intended role. There is no single named-mate recommendation established for every early roster.

Choose parts for the ship’s role
Parts change ship performance, so prioritize attributes that support the task rather than following a universal upgrade order. LINE Games’ ship guide describes these examples:
- Cannons: Determine artillery type and increase artillery damage.
- Armor: Affects defense and seaworthiness.
- Rams: Affect ram attack, momentum, and ice breaking.
- Anchors: Affect seaworthiness and momentum.
- Special parts: Can affect seaworthiness, load capacity, sails, crew, and other attributes.
Ship performance reflects its base performance, parts, and mates. A part that improves an attribute you rely on may be more useful than one that adds a benefit unrelated to your fleet’s job.

Plan shipbuilding and fleet upkeep
Shipbuilding requires blueprints, keels, wood, gunports, and ducats. LINE Games lists the Shipyard Parts Shop, combat loot, adventure, tasks, events, and palace rewards among possible material sources in its ship guide. The available sources do not establish one fixed early-game build path or a universal upgrade-cost schedule.
Water and food are consumed over time; low supplies can reduce combat morale. Ships can be assigned or replaced only while the fleet is anchored in a city, so make lineup changes before departing and carry enough supplies for the trip. These management rules are covered in LINE Games’ Beginner Guide: Combat.

Compare your options without chasing a universal best fleet
The official guides document mechanics, not a single strongest early lineup for every Admiral, roster, and activity. Use these questions to compare ships you can actually field:
- Activity: Does the ship fit Adventure, Trade, or Combat?
- Combat role: If fighting, is it Charging, Artillery, Assault, or Support?
- Matchup: Is its attack type strong, equal, or weak against the opponent?
- Mate fit: Are cabin assignments compatible, and do the mates’ skills and effects help this ship?
- Parts fit: Do the installed parts improve attributes relevant to the job?
- Progression and upkeep: Is a fleet slot available, and can you build and supply the ship?
LINE Games reported a September 10, 2026 content update on its official game page, evidence that the game continues to receive updates—not proof that any newly added mate is appropriate for an early fleet. For current availability and changes, check the game client and official updates; the documented mechanics above do not establish a current universal ship ranking.
