Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Loop recording lets a dash cam keep recording when its card fills by replacing older footage. A G-sensor can flag an impact or sudden movement so the camera saves that clip separately from ordinary loop files. Parking mode describes several ways a camera may record or wake while the vehicle is off—and it needs a power source that remains available after ignition.
How loop recording handles a full memory card
A dash cam usually splits video into shorter files. When the card runs out of free space, loop recording deletes or overwrites the oldest eligible files so recording can continue. On the VIOFO A229 Ultra, for example, the manual offers 1-, 2-, 3-, 5-, or 10-minute file durations and says the oldest files are overwritten one by one when space is insufficient. Those durations and the specified microSD card are model-specific, not a universal dash cam standard. VIOFO A229 Ultra manual
Loop recording does not mean every file is necessarily treated alike. Event clips may be locked or stored separately, so the camera excludes them from routine overwriting. As protected files accumulate, they can take up space that would otherwise be available for regular footage. Check the camera manual for how files are protected and how to preserve or remove them.
What the G-sensor does to event footage
A G-sensor detects movement, such as an impact or sudden braking. Depending on the camera, that detection can trigger an emergency recording and protect it from routine loop deletion. VIOFO and DDPAI describe event footage as locked or saved separately from ordinary recordings. VIOFO A229 Ultra manual DDPAI support

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Sensitivity controls how much movement is needed to trigger an event. A higher setting may flag smaller shocks; a lower setting requires a stronger one. If too many clips are protected, they can consume card capacity, so review the sensitivity and the camera’s file-management instructions rather than assuming protected files will be cleared automatically.
What parking mode can mean
Parking mode is an umbrella term, not one standard recording method. Depending on the camera, it may keep recording normally, record at a reduced frame rate or in time-lapse, start a clip after motion or impact detection, or sleep at low power and wake when an event is detected. The amount of footage from before a trigger also varies: some systems buffer a few seconds, while others begin recording after waking.

Motion detection, impact detection, and buffering
These triggers can work differently. BlackVue distinguishes motion detected by the image sensor from impact detected by an accelerometer or G-sensor, and supports time-lapse parking recording on some models. Its documentation says buffered clips can include a few seconds before a trigger. These are BlackVue-specific behaviors; do not assume another camera offers the same trigger types or pre-event coverage. BlackVue parking mode
Questions to ask about a specific camera
- Does it record continuously, use time-lapse, respond to motion or impact, or sleep and wake?
- Does it buffer video from before an event, and how much?
- How long can it remain in parking mode, and what happens when its time limit is reached?
- Are event files locked, and how can you manage them if the card fills?
Powering a dash cam after the vehicle is off
Parking monitoring requires power after ignition-off. Depending on the camera and vehicle, that may mean a compatible hardwire or step-down kit, or a dedicated parking-mode battery. Some setups monitor voltage and stop recording when the vehicle battery reaches a selected low-voltage threshold. The cutoff and runtime depend on the camera, power accessory, vehicle battery condition, and settings; there is no single reliable duration or cutoff value for all installations. Before relying on parking mode, verify that the power accessory is compatible with both the camera and vehicle, and find out how its low-voltage protection works. A camera’s advertised parking feature alone does not establish that it will keep recording for a particular number of hours or days.
How storage affects the footage you keep
Card capacity is shared by ordinary loop files and any protected event files. Loop recording can free space by overwriting older eligible footage, but locked clips may remain until you manage them. Check the camera’s supported card type and maximum capacity before choosing a card; the VIOFO A229 Ultra manual, for example, specifies microSD, while supported capacities and formats vary by model. Compare parking-mode features before relying on them
| Feature | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Recording behavior | Continuous video, time-lapse, motion or impact triggers, or sleep-and-wake. |
| Pre-event coverage | Whether video is buffered before detection and how much is included. |
| Power setup | Whether the camera needs a compatible hardwire/step-down kit or a separate battery. |
| Battery protection | Whether the setup monitors voltage, how its cutoff is set, and what happens at cutoff. |
| Runtime | Whether there is a selectable time limit and how recording ends when that limit is reached. |
| File handling | Which clips are protected, whether they count against card capacity, and how to manage a full card. |
Use the manual for the exact camera and power accessory to confirm these details. Manufacturer examples explain how particular products work; they do not establish a universal standard for sensitivity, recording duration, or event-file protection.
