If your PC has no display after installing or handling a graphics card, reseating it is a sensible first check. Shut down the computer, switch off the power supply, and unplug the power cord before touching components. Then remove the card carefully, align it with the PCIe slot, and press it fully into place until the latch locks. A reseat can fix a poor connection, but a blank screen can have other causes too.
Before you reseat the graphics card
Use the manuals for your exact graphics card and motherboard if the card’s power connections or PCIe release mechanism are unfamiliar. ASUS’s graphics-card installation and removal instructions, updated May 14, 2026, describe the standard process while noting that release mechanisms can differ.
- Shut down the PC, switch off the PSU, and unplug the power cord.
- Have a screwdriver that fits your case’s screws. The required screw head and driver size depend on the case.
- Work carefully around the motherboard and card. Do not pull against a locked PCIe latch.
How to remove and reseat a GPU
- Disconnect the card’s power leads. Unplug each auxiliary power connector attached to the graphics card.
- Remove the chassis screws. Unscrew the fasteners holding the card’s bracket to the case.
- Release the PCIe slot latch. Press the motherboard slot’s latch to unlock the card. If the mechanism is unfamiliar, check the motherboard manual rather than prying at it with a tool.
- Lift the card straight up. Keep it aligned with the slot as you remove it. If it resists, stop and check that the latch is released and the bracket screws are out; do not force it.
- Check the slot and card. Look for dust or foreign objects in the PCIe slot. If debris is present, clean it before reinstalling the card.
- Align the card with the slot. Match the notch in the card’s gold-finger connector to the key in the PCIe slot.
- Press the card straight down. Apply even pressure until it is fully inserted and the slot latch locks.
- Secure and reconnect it. Reinstall the chassis screws, then reconnect every required GPU power lead. Check that the pins are aligned and each connection is secure.
ASUS’s installation guidance advises lifting the card vertically and cautions against forcibly pulling it, which could damage the motherboard or latch.
If the PC still has no display
Shut down, switch off the PSU, and unplug the PC before checking connections or attempting another reseat. Confirm that the card is fully inserted and that its required power connectors are secure. Then work through these checks:

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Check the PCIe slot: Make sure the card’s connector is seated and the slot is clear of dust or foreign objects.
- Try another supported slot: If the motherboard has another PCIe slot that supports the card, ASUS suggests testing it.
- Check the display connection: Verify that the monitor is on and that its cable is securely connected. For a graphics-card display output, connect the cable to the card rather than assuming the motherboard’s display output will work with the installed setup.
- Verify power requirements: Check the PSU recommendation for your exact graphics-card model and confirm that the required power leads are connected. Do not rely on a generic wattage rule.
ASUS’s no-display and abnormal-display troubleshooting guide, updated October 9, 2025, also lists drivers, overclocking instability, GPU temperature, software compatibility, games, and PSU power as possible factors in display problems. Those possibilities do not by themselves show that the graphics card is defective. If the checks above do not resolve the issue, follow the no-boot or no-display instructions from your motherboard or PC maker, or contact its support team.
