Start with checks that do not erase data, then follow the recovery steps for your device. Before any factory reset or iPhone Restore, read the data-loss warning beside that step.
First, identify what the device is doing
Note whether the phone repeatedly restarts, shuts down, stays on a logo, shows a progress bar, or displays a recovery screen. Also record the model and whether the issue began after an update, app installation, restore or migration, drop, or liquid exposure. These details help distinguish a restart loop from a device that is simply taking time to finish an update or restore.
There is no single fix for every boot loop. Google and Samsung list several possible troubleshooting areas, including software and apps, storage, power, accessories, and hardware. Follow the instructions for your device and model rather than trying button combinations at random.
Try checks that do not erase data
Charge the phone and check its power accessories
Use a suitable charger and cable that are in good condition, following the device maker’s guidance. Samsung notes that a deeply drained battery may not immediately show a charging indicator; if possible, try another compatible charger and cable. Do not use damaged charging equipment.

Remove cases and connected accessories
Take off the case and disconnect external battery packs or other accessories. A case or accessory can obstruct a button or sensor, making it harder to rule out a physical cause. Google includes removing accessories among its troubleshooting steps.
Check storage and updates if the phone stays on
If you can reach the normal interface, check for system and app updates and review available storage. Google Android Help says, “Your phone can start having issues when less than 10% of storage is free.” This is Google’s general storage guidance, not a universal threshold or proof that low storage caused a restart loop.

Android and Samsung Galaxy troubleshooting
Use Safe mode to check for downloaded apps
On Android devices that support Safe mode, start the phone in that mode and see whether the restarts stop. Safe mode disables downloaded apps for the diagnostic session. If the problem disappears, investigate recently installed apps: remove them one at a time, then check whether the symptom returns. Safe mode entry steps differ by manufacturer and model; use the instructions for your specific device.
Follow Android’s general guidance
Google’s Android troubleshooting guidance covers updates, available storage, app checks, Safe mode, removing accessories, and factory reset as an advanced option. If you can reach Settings, menu paths differ between Android versions and manufacturers. If the phone will not stay on long enough to use the relevant screens, consult the manufacturer’s model-specific support instructions instead of assuming one set of recovery steps fits every Android phone.

For a Galaxy device stuck in a boot loop
Samsung lists software glitches, low battery, incompatible apps, and hardware issues as possible explanations for Galaxy boot-loop symptoms. Try Safe mode if your model supports it. Samsung says that if the issue persists in Safe mode, hardware is likely; that is Samsung’s troubleshooting assessment, not a guarantee about every device.
If Safe mode does not help, the phone has visible physical damage, or you cannot complete the relevant software steps, contact Samsung support or an authorized service provider. Button combinations and menu labels can vary with Galaxy model and software version.

Factory reset is a last resort
Warning: A factory data reset removes data from the phone and uninstalls apps and their associated data. Samsung also warns that a reset removes all data. Back up first if the phone allows it; do not assume that a backup exists or that every item can be restored. Data stored in your Google Account may be recoverable, depending on what was backed up.
Consider a reset only after less destructive steps have failed, and follow the exact reset instructions for your model. Google and Samsung both present reset as an advanced or later step, not the first response to a restart loop.

iPhone: distinguish a restart loop from a stuck Apple logo
If the Apple logo appears with a progress bar during restore or migration
For the restore or migration situation described by Apple, do not interrupt the process just because the progress bar pauses briefly. Wait until the bar has not moved for at least an hour. If it remains stuck that long, connect the iPhone to a Mac or PC and follow Apple’s model-specific instructions to enter recovery mode. Depending on the computer and software, use Finder or iTunes on a Mac, or Apple Devices or iTunes on a PC.
Choose Update before Restore
When the computer offers the options, choose Update first. Apple’s guidance distinguishes this from Restore, which erases the iPhone. If the iPhone continues to show the Restore screen, Apple says to connect it to a computer and select Update to reinstall iOS while keeping personal data. Follow the prompts for your model and computer.
Warning: Choosing Restore erases the iPhone. Use it only after considering the data loss and backup situation; never assume a backup exists or that it contains every item.
If recovery does not work
If recovery fails or a button required to enter recovery mode is broken, Apple says service may be needed. Use Apple’s support instructions for the exact screen and iPhone model rather than applying Android or Galaxy reset steps.
When to seek repair help
Stop troubleshooting and contact the device maker or a qualified service provider if the phone has visible physical damage, the restart loop continues in Android Safe mode, the device-specific software steps fail, or a required recovery button does not work. A persistent symptom can require inspection; repeatedly resetting or attempting mismatched button sequences may not address a hardware fault.
