It can be a good fit for households that want short, active group games—especially with younger children—and have room to play. It is less compelling if you want a deep traditional console library or would rather avoid another subscription. The key is to judge the hardware and the games you would actually use, not the size of the advertised catalog alone.
What you get without a subscription
Nex’s current product page lists five Starter Pack games: Fruit Ninja, Starri, Party Fowl, Whack-a-Mole Deluxe, and Go Keeper. Nex says these remain available without Play Pass; its FAQ puts it plainly: “Do I need Play Pass to use Nex Playground? No.” The pass is optional, not a requirement to use the console.
Nex says Play Pass adds access to the rest of its catalog, currently described as 60+ active games, along with new content. Nex also says the games have no ads or in-app purchases and that it does not sell individual games. The catalog count and selection can change, so treat 60+ as Nex’s current claim rather than a guaranteed permanent library. Nex Playground product information and Play Pass details.
What Play Pass costs—and how to assess the total
On Nex’s US pages accessed October 7, 2026, Play Pass was listed at $49 for three months or $89 for twelve months. Nex’s hardware page showed a regular price of $299 and a sale price of $239; these are volatile US prices, not guaranteed current prices or market-wide comparisons. Check the live price and bundle contents before buying. Nex Playground and Nex Play Pass.

- 5 GAMES INCLUDED. UNLOCK MORE WITH PLAY PASS. Playground comes with Fruit Ninja, Starri, Whac-a-Mole, Go Keeper, and Party Fowl. A separate purchase of a 3-Month ($49) or 12-Month Play Pass ($89) is required to access the full catalog of games and get new games each month, including Barbie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, How to Train Your Dragon, Peppa Pig, Care Bears, Elmo, Miraculous Ladybug, Gabby's Dollhouse, Kung Fu Panda and more.
- GET MOVING WITH ACTIVE FAMILY FUN. Nex Playground is a new kind of video game console that gets your family moving. It easily connects to your TV, transforming your living room into an active play space. Within minutes, your family will be playing Fruit Ninja, Whac-a-Mole and more. Using a built-in camera to track motion and natural body movements, anyone in the family can jump right in.
- JUST USE YOUR BODY TO PLAY. Play naturally just by moving your body. Playground uses the magic of AI to follow your movements using the built-in wide-angle camera. No controllers or clunky trackers! Up to 4 players can play at the same time, so everyone can get moving together.
- GAMES YOU'LL LOVE MOVING TO. Playground is packed with interactive motion games, turning your living room into an arcade, theme park, gym, and more. There is something for everyone. It is perfect for indoor family game night, after school activities, or a playdate with friends.
- EASY SET UP. Playground connects to your TV or projector with a simple HDMI connection and gets everyone in on the fun. It's small and sits elegantly on any console or mantle, and can easily fit in a backpack for playdates and more. From ages 5 and up—Playground is the life of every party.
For a useful first-year comparison, add the hardware price to the pass duration you expect to use. At the listed prices, that would be $348 with a three-month pass or $388 with a twelve-month pass at the $299 regular hardware price; with the product page’s $239 sale price, the corresponding totals would be $288 or $328. These calculations assume one pass purchase at the listed price and exclude taxes or other fees. If you only want to try the included games, compare the hardware cost alone against how often your household expects to use those five titles.
Nex’s official FAQ says one Play Pass can be used on up to two Nex Playground consoles in the same household through the same account. Its FAQ also says the first Play Pass purchased directly through Nex can be refunded within 14 days of activation under stated conditions; that statement should not be assumed to cover later purchases or purchases from other retailers. Will it fit your room and play style?
Nex recommends about 6 ft x 6 ft of open play space. The console connects to a television over HDMI, and Nex says an HDMI cable is included. Check that the TV and surrounding floor area can support movement-based play before you buy; this is not a handheld system you can use anywhere. Nex Playground product information.
- More likely to suit you: your household enjoys moving and playing together, values short sessions, and expects to return to the games regularly.
- Less likely to suit you: you mainly want solo play, long progression-driven games, conventional controller gaming, or a large library without a subscription.
- Worth checking first: whether the five included games appeal on their own, whether the subscription catalog suits the players, and whether you are comfortable tracking recurring billing.
What reviewers and upcoming content can—and cannot—tell you
A TechRadar review dated December 17, 2025, described Nex Playground as a fine entry-level option for preschoolers and people interested in light fitness. The reviewer also noted short-session experiences, visuals that are not cutting-edge, and the need for Play Pass to access games beyond the five included titles. That is one reviewer’s assessment at that date, not a guarantee about every game or the current catalog. TechRadar’s Nex Playground review.
