To check whether fiber internet is available at your address in the US, search your exact location on the FCC National Broadband Map, then confirm eligibility with each provider’s own address checker. A fiber listing is a useful lead, not an order guarantee: the provider must verify that it can serve your specific home or unit.
Check your address on the FCC National Broadband Map
- Search the full street address. Open the FCC National Broadband Map, enter your address, and select the matching location. If the search does not find it, use the map’s location search or zoom to the site and see whether a location record is present. The FCC’s map instructions explain the search and location details.
- Inspect the fixed broadband results. Look for a provider entry labeled fiber. The map also lists other fixed broadband technologies, including cable, DSL, satellite, and fixed wireless, so a provider appearing in the results does not by itself mean it offers fiber.
- Note the reported providers and speeds. Location details can include provider names, technology, and maximum advertised download and upload speeds. Treat these as reported availability information, not a complete plan quote or a promise of installation.
The FCC says providers submit service availability through its Broadband Data Collection, and the map displays information for individual locations. Its overview of what is on the map describes the information shown and its provider-reported basis.
Confirm availability with the provider
For every fiber provider listed, visit its official site and enter the complete service address in its availability checker. Include an apartment or unit number if the form requests it. For example, Google Fiber’s website provides an address eligibility check.
A provider’s checker is the practical test of whether it currently offers an orderable plan for that address. If it says service is available, review the specific plans and any installation or construction conditions before placing an order. A nearby fiber footprint—or a result for another unit in the same building—does not establish that your exact address can be served.

If the map and provider disagree
FCC map lists fiber, but the provider says unavailable
Contact the provider and ask it to check the exact service address, including the unit number. The map is a cross-provider discovery tool; a provider makes the current eligibility decision for its own service. Do not assume the map listing guarantees that the provider will accept an order or complete installation.
The location point or address record looks wrong
If the map is missing your location or shows an inaccurate location point, use the FCC’s location challenge route. If the location is present but you believe the provider’s service information is inaccurate, use the availability challenge route. These address different issues; the FCC explains how to submit an availability challenge. The map is subject to ongoing data and location corrections.

Compare plans only after eligibility is confirmed
Once providers confirm they can serve your address, compare their actual offers rather than relying only on map speeds. Check:
- Download and upload speeds for the specific plan.
- Recurring price and any promotional pricing terms.
- Installation timing and any construction conditions.
- Contract, cancellation, and equipment requirements.
The FCC map can help identify reported providers, technology, and speed information, but current plan prices, terms, and ordering details come from the providers.
