If your Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) claim is delayed or rejected, first check its current status and read the exact rejection reason. Then verify the relevant member and KYC details against your PF records, follow the correction instructions shown in the official portal, and use EPFiGMS if the problem remains unresolved. A grievance is not a guarantee of claim approval or a claim-settlement deadline.
Check the claim status and read the exact message
Start with EPFO’s Know Your Claim Status service or the claim-status option under For Employees. EPFO’s helpdesk guidance says to select the office where your account is maintained and enter your PF account number. Keep your claim acknowledgement or reference details available. You can also consult the EPFO helpdesk.
Record the status and any rejection reason shown for your specific claim. A generic checklist cannot identify why an individual claim is held or rejected, and the official sources do not provide a complete current list of rejection codes with a universal remedy. Do not resubmit until you understand the message and the instructions for your claim type.
Check the details associated with the claim
Compare identity and KYC information
Compare the relevant details in your claim with the information held in your PF account and KYC records. EPFO’s UAN and KYC FAQ says the name in KYC documents must match the PF records. It describes a name-change request as a way to address a mismatch. The FAQ is from 2020–21, so follow the correction procedure currently displayed in the member portal.

Use the portal’s current correction instructions
Make only the correction relevant to the status or rejection reason. In particular, do not rely on outdated instructions requiring you to upload a cheque-leaf image or an attested bank passbook for an online claim. The Ministry of Labour and Employment said on 3 April 2025 that EPFO had removed that upload requirement and removed employer approval for bank-account seeding. Use the right route for a status question or an unresolved problem

A status check tells you what EPFO currently shows; a grievance asks EPFO to address an unresolved issue. Submitting one does not itself approve a claim or guarantee faster settlement.

File a grievance if the issue remains unresolved
- Check the claim status and note the exact status or rejection reason, along with your claim reference details.
- Use the applicable portal correction process if the message points to inaccurate member or KYC information. Follow the current portal instructions rather than relying on old document requirements.
- If the issue is still unresolved, submit it through EPFiGMS. Include the relevant claim details and explain the specific problem clearly.
- Keep the grievance reference so you can follow up through the official channel.
EPFO’s Citizen Charter gives a general limit of seven working days for grievance settlement and says unresolved matters are escalated to a higher authority. That is a grievance target, not a universal deadline for settling an EPFO claim. The sources do not establish a current, universal claim-settlement timeframe for all claim types and circumstances.

EPFO lists 14470 as a helpdesk/toll-free number on its helpdesk page. Use official EPFO channels and do not share your UAN password, Aadhaar details, bank details or OTP with callers or agents.
