Crimson Desert does not have an official co-op campaign, but a community-made PC mod documents an unofficial way for two players to share a session. It connects through Steam, makes one player the host of the game world, and has the joining player control an existing companion character. Some movement and combat-related state is documented as working; quests, cutscenes, world interactions, and parts of fast travel are not complete.
The mod is for the Windows Steam version, according to its project documentation. Its listed features and setup may change with game updates, and they have not been independently tested here.

How the co-op mod works
The project describes a two-player session built on Steam peer-to-peer networking. One player hosts; the other joins through a Steam friend invite or Steam ID. The host’s game state is authoritative, meaning it acts as the reference for enemies, world interactions, and damage validation.
Rather than adding a separate, fully networked player character, the mod lets the joining player take over an existing companion entity. The README names Oongka, Yann, and Naira as the companion options. In practical terms, the project synchronizes selected information between two game instances while repurposing a companion slot.

These are the project’s own descriptions of its design, not independently verified live-game results. The distinction matters: a shared session is not the same as a complete co-op campaign with every story and world system working for both players.
What the project documents as working
The current README lists these features as working with verified offsets:
- Position synchronization and companion hijacking.
- Damage tracking and enemy health synchronization.
- Steam P2P connection and an in-game overlay.
The project also describes optional or experimental work involving mount-state and fast-travel data. Capturing or sending an event is not the same as applying it correctly on the other player’s game, so those features should not be treated as complete simply because data is transmitted.
What is incomplete or limited
The repository’s feature notes identify several substantial gaps. These are the maintainer’s documented statuses, and the README cautions that some areas still need investigation or testing.

Quest progress
The receiving-side quest implementation is still a stub. The README calls for further investigation of the quest manager, so the documentation does not establish that both players can progress the same quests together.

Cutscenes
The receiving-side cutscene implementation is also a stub, and the project has not identified the relevant trigger function. Shared or synchronized story scenes are therefore not a documented finished feature.
World interactions
Receive-side handling for world interactions remains a stub. Do not assume that an action performed by one player will reliably update the other player’s world.
Fast travel
An opt-in hook can capture and broadcast the host’s waypoint, but the receiver currently logs the event rather than applying it in-game. The project says the native apply function has not been identified.

Cross-model animation synchronization is incomplete. The default behavior is passthrough, and experimental evaluator work does not yet resolve differences between animation IDs on different models.
Mounts and dragon health
Mount data and dragon health are experimental or opt-in. The overlay can show mount status, but the README says the remote companion’s visual mount representation is not synchronized yet.

How to set it up
The project documents Windows 10 or 11 and the Steam version of the game. It describes installation through JSON Mod Manager or a manual ASI-loader installation. Both players need the mod installed.
- Check the current project README for the latest requirements and installation instructions before changing your game files.
- Install the mod on both Windows Steam PCs using one of the documented methods.
- Have the host start the session in-game and press F7 to host, then invite the other player through Steam or share the Steam ID as the README directs.
- Use F8 to open the overlay, according to the project’s instructions.
These are project-specific controls and instructions; they can change as the mod or game is updated. The project also warns of possible conflicts with other ASI mods that hook overlapping game functions. Its README lists compatibility with JSON Mod Manager, CDUMM, and most PAZ-based mods, but that is not a guarantee for every game build or mod combination.
Which platforms can use it?
Pearl Abyss announced Crimson Desert’s worldwide launch for March 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, Apple Mac, Epic Games Store, and ROG Xbox Ally in its launch announcement. The co-op mod’s README, however, documents Windows and Steam requirements. The game’s availability on consoles, Mac, or other PC storefronts does not establish mod support on those platforms.
Is official multiplayer coming?
The cited Pearl Abyss launch announcement and its June 2026 update-plan announcement do not announce an official co-op mode. The June update-plan coverage discusses updates, cross-save, and DLC.
GamesRadar+ later reported that Pearl Abyss sees potential in expanding multiplayer, while describing it as a major technical undertaking involving server architecture, balance, cross-platform stability, and live-service operations. The report also said the company’s immediate development priority was DLC and other pipelines. Its statement that “There is significant potential for expansion into multiplayer modes” expresses interest, not a confirmed feature or release schedule. See GamesRadar+’s report.
Older claims about multiplayer may trace back to a translated 2020 developer interview, years before release. In that interview, co-producer SeongWoo Lee said, “Macduff’s journey itself is single player. Of course, there are parts where you can get help from other players, but the bulk of this is single-player.” That is historical design context, not proof that the released game includes optional multiplayer content or shared progression.
