The right fix depends on which output is affected, the station’s charge level, and its model-specific ECO or auto-shutoff settings. Check those in order; there is no universal watt threshold or timer for all power stations.
Why a power station shuts off under a low load
Some stations switch off an output when they detect little or no power draw, to save energy. A device that draws less than the station’s configured minimum may therefore stop receiving power even though it is still plugged in. The threshold, delay, affected output, and whether the feature can be disabled vary by model.
For example, Jackery support says its USB output can shut off for devices consuming below 2 W, with a default delay of 12 hours; app-enabled models can adjust the setting. Bluetooth earphones and smart bands are examples in its guidance. This is a Jackery-specific behavior, not a general standard. Jackery: Automatically Shuts Down After Use
BLUETTI’s 2024 AC60P manual describes ECO mode for AC and DC: while it is enabled, output turns off after a period of low or no load. The AC60P lets users set AC thresholds from 10 to 30 W, DC thresholds from 5 to 10 W, and a delay of 1, 2, 3, or 4 hours. The manual advises disabling ECO when connecting a small power device. How to troubleshoot the shutdown

Check the battery level
Look at the station’s display and confirm that it has charge remaining. A depleted battery can stop output regardless of the connected device’s load. Jackery lists checking the battery level as an initial step in its USB-cutoff guidance. Jackery: Automatically Shuts Down After Use

Identify which output is switching off
Note whether the device is connected to AC, USB, or DC, and check the corresponding output indicator or button. Settings can differ by output, even on the same station. For instance, EcoFlow’s E980 manual says USB and 12 V outputs do not automatically shut off after their output buttons are enabled, while AC can have an idle timeout. Review ECO and low-load settings
In the station’s screen or app, look for ECO mode, low-load detection, energy saving, or a minimum-load threshold. If the device draws less than the configured threshold, switch ECO off or lower the threshold if the model allows it. On the BLUETTI AC60P, ECO can be turned on or off on the screen, and its AC/DC thresholds and delay are adjustable. Check inactivity and AC timeout options
Look separately for an AC timeout or Auto Power-Off setting. Jackery documents Auto Power-Off choices of 2, 8, 12, or 24 hours, or Off; availability and control method may depend on the model. Its Energy Saving Mode guidance also says that when AC is on but the unit is neither charging nor discharging, it shuts down after 12 hours. EcoFlow says the E980 AC output can turn off after an idle timeout and directs users to the app to set the interval. A small or intermittent load may not keep AC output active between operating cycles. EcoFlow E980 User Manual

Retest, then contact the manufacturer if the cause remains unclear
After changing a relevant setting, enable the output again and observe whether it stays on with the device connected. If the battery is adequate, settings do not explain the cutoff, and a non-low-power device still loses USB output, Jackery says an internal fault may be involved and recommends contacting customer service. When an intermittent appliance triggers AC timeout
A refrigerator or air conditioner may draw little or no power while its compressor is between cycles. A station that interprets that quiet period as an idle AC load may time out before the appliance starts drawing power again. EcoFlow specifically warns that intermittent AC loads such as refrigerators and air conditioners can trigger AC timeout on the E980.
For critical continuous use, the E980 manual says to set AC timeout to Never in the EcoFlow app and regularly check the battery level. This is model-specific advice, not a guarantee that every station offers a Never setting or is suitable as backup power for critical equipment. What to check before choosing a different station
Buying a replacement is not the first fix for a station that shuts off under a small load. If you are comparing models because this behavior matters, check their manuals for the output types supported, whether ECO can be disabled, adjustable low-load thresholds and delays, whether settings are controlled on the unit or in an app, and guidance for intermittent or critical loads. The documented controls differ among models; the examples above do not establish a brand-wide ranking.
