To find your router’s local IP address, check the network details on a device connected to that router. Look for Default Gateway, Router, or Gateway, depending on your device. On Windows, run ipconfig and read the value for the active Wi-Fi or Ethernet adapter.
How do I look up my router’s IP address to access the router’s settings?
Use the address shown for the network connection you are currently using, rather than guessing a common router address. Your device must be connected to the network whose router you want to manage. Once you have the gateway address, enter it in your browser’s address bar to try to open the router’s management page. TP-Link and Linksys document the device-specific steps below.
Find the router address on your device
Windows
- Connect to the relevant network over Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
- Open Command Prompt and run
ipconfig. - Under the active Wi-Fi or Ethernet adapter, find Default Gateway. That is the local gateway address for that connection.
Check the adapter you are actually using: details for a disconnected adapter or a VPN may not identify the router you intend to manage.
macOS
On macOS Ventura and later, open Apple menu → System Settings → Wi-Fi, select Details for the connected network, then open TCP/IP. Read the Router field. On earlier macOS versions, use System Preferences → Network, select the active connection, choose Advanced → TCP/IP, and read Router.

Linux and ChromeOS
On Linux, open the active network connection’s information and look for Default Router. On ChromeOS, inspect the active network details for Gateway. Menu names vary across Linux distributions and ChromeOS releases. These labels and procedures are described in TP-Link’s support guide.
What the router IP address means
For this task, the router IP address is the local gateway your connected device uses to reach the router. It is not the device’s own IP address, and it is not the public IP address internet services see. Use the gateway from the connection you are troubleshooting. A router maker may also provide an app or brand-specific domain as another way to reach its management interface.

Why common default addresses may not work
Router defaults are not universal, and an address may have been changed in the network configuration. TP-Link lists 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.1.1 as examples for many of its standard routers, and 192.168.68.1 for Deco mesh systems; these are TP-Link-specific examples, not addresses that apply to every router. TP-Link also lists tplinkwifi.net and tplinkdeco.net as brand-specific alternatives. If a guessed default does not work, use the active connection’s gateway instead. TP-Link’s guide

If the address does not open the settings page
- Confirm that the device is connected by Wi-Fi or Ethernet to the intended network.
- Check that you copied the Router, Gateway, or Default Gateway value for the active connection, not your device’s own IP address.
- If you tried a common default, check the gateway shown in the network details; the configured address may differ.
- If the network is managed, mesh-based, or uses an ISP gateway, ask the network administrator or consult the equipment maker’s model-specific support instructions. The available support guides do not establish one fix that applies to every network topology or access-control setting. Linksys and Zyxel also provide device-specific guidance.
