A smart ring can be a good fit if you want discreet, screen-free tracking of sleep, activity and other wellness signals. Before buying, check the fit, phone and app compatibility, features you will actually use, charging routine and any recurring membership cost. Treat the readings as wellness trends—not medical diagnoses.
1. Get the fit right before ordering
Fit affects both comfort and sensor contact. Fingers can change size during the day and night, so a ring that feels fine at first may become uncomfortable or loose later. Ring sizes can also differ by model and generation; Oura says its sizes differ slightly from standard US ring sizes.
How to check sizing
- Use the sizing kit made for the exact ring model and generation you plan to buy.
- Wear the sizer for at least 24 hours, including while sleeping, as Oura recommends. Check that it feels snug but comfortable.
- Confirm the final size against the manufacturer’s current instructions before placing your order.

2. Confirm the app, phone and features you will get
Smart rings may track signals such as heart rate, sleep, movement, temperature trends and blood oxygen, but the sensors, available features and app experience vary by model. Phone compatibility can vary too. Check the exact ring generation and phone combination, then verify that the features you care about are available in your region and app.

Oura Ring 4 illustrates the range of features a ring may offer: Oura lists heart-rate and HRV sensing, sleep-related blood-oxygen sensing, temperature measurement and an accelerometer. Those manufacturer-listed capabilities are not a guarantee that every ring offers the same features or that readings are clinically accurate. 3. Work out the total cost, including membership
Do not compare hardware prices alone. Check whether the ring requires a subscription for the insights you want, what remains available if you cancel and whether the membership renews automatically. Oura says membership unlocks detailed insights and personalized guidance, while use without membership is limited; review its current membership terms before buying.

When its product page was retrieved, Oura displayed $399 for the selected Ring 4 finish. That is a dated listing for a particular selection, not a guaranteed current price or a price for every market or finish. Check the current listing for your location and chosen version at Oura Ring 4.
4. Match battery life and charging to your routine
Battery life varies with the model, ring size, settings and use, so treat a manufacturer estimate as a guide rather than a promise. Oura reports 5–8 days for Ring 4 under its stated testing assumptions. Its support page also notes that configuration, size and use affect actual duration. 5. Treat health readings as wellness information
A smart ring can help you notice patterns in sleep, activity or other measured signals, but it is not a substitute for medical advice. Oura states: “Oura Ring is not a medical device and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, monitor, or prevent medical conditions or illnesses.” Read its guidance on Oura and medical conditions. If a reading concerns you or you have symptoms, seek guidance from a qualified clinician rather than relying on a wearable result.
