No—not as a broadband-only service. Sky Q needs a satellite dish feed for its live TV service. Broadband or Wi-Fi supports connected features, but it does not replace that feed. If you do not have a private dish, check whether your building provides a communal satellite connection.
Does Sky Q need a satellite dish?
Yes. Sky’s setup instructions tell you to connect the dish cable or cables to the Sky Q box: Sky Q setup instructions. Sky Community superuser TimmyBGood also explained that live channels arrive over the dish while broadband supplies on-demand content. That explanation was posted on 9 March 2023, and the author is a community member, not a Sky employee: Sky Community discussion.
The important distinction is between having no private dish and having no satellite feed. Some homes or apartment buildings may have a communal system connected to the Sky Q box. If you are unsure, ask your landlord, building manager or Sky whether a communal feed is available. Wi-Fi alone cannot supply the satellite signal Sky Q uses for live TV.
What works if Sky Q has a dish feed but no broadband?
If the dish feed remains connected, the main Sky Q box can still show live TV and play recordings without broadband. Sky’s support page lists different limitations depending on whether the box has never connected to broadband or has lost a connection it previously had: Sky Q features without broadband.

The box has never connected to broadband
Sky says the main box is limited to live TV and recordings. Connected features and content areas may be unavailable, including on-demand options, My Q, apps, search and other online services. Do not assume that a particular app or on-demand programme will work offline.
The box has lost broadband
Some features may remain available in a limited form. Sky says a selection of Catch Up TV, My Q and Sky Cinema content may be available via satellite, while other on-demand services are unavailable. The exact availability depends on Sky’s feature limits; losing broadband is not the same as having never connected.

What about a Sky Q Mini?
A Mini is not an independent, dishless replacement for the main box. Sky says a Mini that has never connected to broadband cannot watch TV or use services. If a previously connected Mini loses broadband, some features may remain limited. Check Sky’s feature list for the relevant Mini state before relying on it.
Can I still use Sky Go?
Sky Go is a separate case from watching directly on the Sky Q box. Sky says the app must have connected to a Sky Q box with active broadband to enable its features. If it was already connected and internet access is then lost, some live TV, radio, recordings and previously downloaded or saved content may remain available under Sky’s stated conditions.

Can a cable, Wi-Fi adapter or Mini make Sky Q dishless?
No. A replacement satellite cable can help repair a dish-fed installation, but it cannot create a satellite signal where no dish or communal feed exists. Sky’s 2TB box specifications list two satellite input F-connectors: Sky Q 2TB box specifications. A Wi-Fi connection provides internet access for supported connected features; it does not turn the main receiver into a broadband-only TV box. A Mini also does not replace the main box’s reception path.

If there is no private or communal satellite feed, the existing Sky Q box will not provide its normal live TV service over Wi-Fi alone. Sky Stream is a separate broadband-based Sky product family to investigate, rather than a setting or upgrade that makes a Sky Q box stream all channels. Sky Community identifies Stream and Sky Glass as dishless alternatives, but check Sky’s current package terms, availability and broadband requirements before choosing one.

- You have a working dish or communal feed, but no broadband: use Sky Q for live TV and recordings, with connected features restricted.
- You have broadband, but no satellite feed: Wi-Fi alone will not make Sky Q work as a broadband-only receiver; check communal-feed access or consider a separate streaming product.
- Your satellite cable appears damaged: replace or repair the cable only if a working dish or communal feed is present.
