Temperature and relative humidity both affect water production, while airflow, heat-exchanger design, and condensate handling also matter. A yield or energy figure is meaningful only alongside the conditions and measurement method under which it was recorded.
How humidity and temperature affect water production
Relative humidity tells you how close air is to saturation at its current temperature; it does not, by itself, describe the total moisture available in the air. In a refrigeration-based AWG, the machine cools incoming air so moisture condenses. The resulting production depends on the air’s temperature and moisture state, how much air the unit processes, and how its refrigeration and heat-exchange surfaces operate.
A study of an AWG operating in a hot, humid climate found that both temperature and relative humidity affected its water extraction rate (Ahmad et al., 2022). That finding does not establish a universal yield curve or mean that warmer air always produces more water. The relationship depends on the moisture content of the incoming air and the machine’s operating conditions.
Why output figures need their test conditions
Liters per hour or liters per day are not fixed ratings independent of weather. When reading a stated yield, look for the ambient temperature and relative humidity, the operating period, and whether the number came from a measured test, a model, or a manufacturer rating.

#1 Best Overall
- ✅ [Revolution] - Game-changing revolution in drinking water industry! Brings you the purest water by extracting moisture from the air and purifying the water with built-in air and water filtration system. No plumbing or piped water is needed. Just plug into a power outlet! No installation is needed.
- ✅ [Purifying] - With built-in air and water filtration system such as PAC treatment, Ultrafiltration, carbon block filter system, and UVC-LED sterilization system, etc., it produces drinking water that tastes fresh, pure, and soft.
- ✅ [Production Volume] - The produced water volume depends on the level of humidity in the air and the ambient temperature. Work best in areas with relative humidity levels ABOVE 40% and environmental temperature ABOVE 59°F (15°C). The maximum production volume is 2.64 Gallon (10L) each day (with the temperature of 86°F and humidity of 80%).
- ✅ [Healthy] - Free from contaminants like heavy metal, pesticides, and other impurities found in ground or surface water. Say goodbye to chlorine and chemicals from urban water supply system. The water tank is made of Food-grade PP (Polypropylene). Say goodbye to plastic bottles and reduce your carbon footprint. Help reduce the humidity level in the room.
- ✅ [Easy and Convenient] - Can also be connected to solar pannels (paired with a power station or battery bank), makes it a perfect water source for homes, RVs, trailers, boats, off-grid or emergencies during natural disasters.
For example, a 2025 prototype study reports a developed AWG producing 2.1 L/hr at 0.73 kWh/L. The paper says the systems used for comparison were evaluated under similar average environmental conditions of 22–24°C and 60–63% relative humidity. These are results reported in that study’s context, not a general expectation for other machines or climates (Baioumi, Hanafy, and ElGamal, 2025).
How to interpret energy use
Specific energy consumption (SEC), usually expressed in kWh/L, describes how much electricity is used per liter of collected water. It is useful for comparing efficiency only when the test conditions, measurement period, and system boundary are also clear. Pair SEC with the corresponding water yield rather than treating it as a standalone guarantee.

A 2022 study reports a lowest monthly production rate of 0.13 L/hr and energy consumption of 1.98 kWh/L for that month. Those are results from that study’s system and conditions, not a typical or universal minimum for AWGs (Ahmad et al., 2022).
Machine design also changes the result
Weather is only part of the equation. Recent AWG research identifies airflow, evaporator surface design, and condensate-removal efficiency as factors that can affect performance (2025 study of a vibrating-fin AWG; Baioumi, Hanafy, and ElGamal, 2025). Differences in those features and in how performance is measured make simple product-to-product rankings unreliable.

How to compare AWGs fairly
Use figures measured over the same period and under comparable conditions. Keep these details together when checking a specification or study:
- Water yield: liters per hour or day, plus the operating duration.
- Energy: kWh/L for the same stated test interval and system boundary.
- Ambient conditions: temperature and relative humidity, and location or season when available.
- System details: the water-harvesting approach, airflow, heat-exchanger design, and condensate collection method.
- Evidence type: an independently measured study, a modeled result, or a manufacturer-reported rating.
A 2025 assessment of AWG potential in Northern Chile summarizes manufacturer-reported SEC examples, but the figures span different temperatures and humidity levels. The paper’s indexed abstract lists 0.28 kWh/L at 30°C and 80% RH for Thunder; 0.24 kWh/L at 22.6°C and 60% RH for GEN-M1; 0.36 kWh/L at 28°C and 80% RH for RoL50; 0.4 kWh/L at 30°C and 80% RH for EA60; and 0.29 kWh/L at 30°C and 80% RH for ASWEA-250 Elite (2025 Northern Chile assessment). These are manufacturer-reported examples summarized by the paper, not independently verified current specifications. Because both the conditions and potentially the test methods differ, they should not be treated as a head-to-head ranking.

How to measure conditions and actual performance
A temperature and humidity meter near the AWG intake can record the ambient conditions around the unit. Those readings help describe the air, but they do not establish the machine’s water yield or energy efficiency on their own.
To assess actual performance, collect the water and record electricity use over the same interval, while logging temperature and relative humidity. In its 2025 prototype study, Baioumi, Hanafy, and ElGamal report monitoring temperature and humidity with DHT-22 sensors, collecting data through Arduino, and displaying it through LabVIEW. That is one study’s monitoring setup, not a requirement for measuring a consumer AWG.
