A Sky Q “no satellite signal” message does not by itself mean the dish needs realigning or replacing. First identify whether the message is coming from the TV or the Sky Q box, check the accessible cable connections at the box, and consider whether very heavy rain may be affecting reception. If the problem persists, a qualified diagnosis is needed: the symptoms alone cannot reliably distinguish dish misalignment from an LNB, cabling, or another fault.

Check the cables at the Sky Q box
If the Sky Q screen reports no satellite signal, inspect the dish cables where they enter the back of the box, provided the connections are accessible. Make sure they are seated and finger tight; do not force them. Sky Community contributors recommend this check, and one user reported that securing a loose coax connection resolved channel problems. That is an individual report, not a guaranteed fix or proof that every signal fault is caused by a loose cable. Sky Community discussions also describe other possible causes.
Consider the weather
If reception failed during very heavy rain, wait for conditions to ease and see whether the signal returns. Sky Community contributors mention heavy rain as a possible temporary factor. A weather-related timing clue does not establish that the dish is aligned correctly or rule out another fault.

Can you tell from the symptoms whether the dish needs realigning or replacing?
No. The available guidance does not provide a reliable homeowner visual test, signal threshold, or decision rule for choosing between realignment and replacement. A no-signal message can be consistent with several possibilities, including dish misalignment, a failing LNB, or water in the cabling, but those possibilities are reported in community troubleshooting replies rather than confirmed by the symptom itself.
Do not climb to, bend, move, or replace dish equipment based only on the screen message or a glance from the ground. If your building uses a communal dish
Check your building’s arrangements and contact the landlord or building manager about the approved service route. A Sky Community reply advises residents using a communal dish to coordinate through building management or the landlord and use their approved engineer. Avoid arranging independent work on equipment shared by the building.
