What is different between the Switch and Switch 2 editions?
The game is available for both systems, but the Switch 2 Edition adds input and display/performance features. The Nintendo Switch version is also listed as supported on Switch 2, with behavior consistent with the Switch game; that compatibility does not add the Switch 2 Edition’s features.

Nintendo describes the Switch 2 Edition’s Quality Mode as 60 fps at 4K when docked and 1080p in handheld mode. Performance Mode is described as 120 fps at 1080p docked and 720p handheld. The output you see depends on compatible display capability. These are Nintendo’s stated mode specifications, not a guarantee that every display will show the same output.

Are amiibo or other extra purchases required?
No. Nintendo describes the Metroid Prime 4: Beyond series amiibo as optional extras, and its store lists the figures as sold separately. Nintendo documents these game-specific functions:
- Samus: grants a temporary Health Shield once per day and unlocks a Vi-O-La radio.
- Samus & Vi-O-La: tracks vehicle distance and unlocks alternate skins at milestones.
- Sylux: provides easier access to a cinematic and plays voice lines.
The figures add bonuses and unlocks; they are not required for the main adventure. Nintendo’s version 1.1.0 update page, dated December 3, 2025, notes that amiibo can be accessed from the pause menu, alongside changes to some Gallery cinematic unlock conditions.
