On Android, add a Google Account the developer has approved, select it in Google Play, then open the test link. On iPhone, create a separate Apple Account if needed, but confirm the current TestFlight instructions for the invitation before changing any sign-in settings.
What a separate test account does—and does not—protect
A separate Apple or Google account can help keep a beta invitation and any test-related store activity distinct from your main store identity. It does not make the game or the phone anonymous, and it does not guarantee that the app cannot collect device information, permissions data, gameplay data, or details you enter in the game.
Before joining, review the game’s Data safety information and requested permissions. Avoid entering sensitive information into an unfamiliar build, and do not add payment details unless the test genuinely requires them. Google Play’s User Data policy requires disclosures and secure handling for covered data, but those developer obligations are not an account-isolation feature. If you create an in-game profile, read the game’s privacy notice and check its deletion process; Google Play requires apps with account creation to offer deletion in the app and through an external web resource, but that policy does not guarantee every test build implements deletion smoothly.
Android: use an approved Google Account in Google Play
1. Confirm which account the developer invited
Use a separate Google Account only if the developer’s test rules allow it, and make sure the address you plan to use is the one the developer invited or approved. Google Play testers need a Google Account or Google Workspace account, but access depends on how the developer configured the test track. Internal tests may use an email list and Play Store link; closed tests can limit access to email lists or Google Groups; open tests may be publicly discoverable or available from the app listing, depending on release status. 2. Add the account to Android
- Open the Android Settings app and go to the account-management section. Depending on your Android version and device maker, it may be called Passwords & accounts, Users & accounts, Passwords, passkeys & autofill, or Manage accounts.
- Choose the option to add an account, select Google, and sign in with the approved test account. Google’s Android account instructions cover adding and removing accounts.
- Review sync choices. Adding a Google Account can add associated information—including email, contacts, and calendar events—to the device. Remove the account later through Settings if appropriate; its associated information is also removed from that device.
3. Select it in the Play Store before using the test link
- Open the Google Play Store.
- Tap the profile icon, then select the approved test account.
- With that account selected, open the developer’s test link and follow the enrollment and installation prompts.
Google documents switching accounts in Google Play. If the test is unavailable, verify the selected account and ask the developer to confirm that it has access. Google notes that the default account can affect some settings, including country-specific Play Store content, so an account’s region can also matter. 4. Secure the account and the phone
Use a strong, unique password, set recovery options, enable two-step verification, and protect the phone with a screen lock. Google Play’s account guidance recommends these safeguards. Google also recommends signing in to multiple accounts only on devices you do not share with other people.

Would a separate Android user or guest help?
Android supports separate users or a guest profile, which can be useful when lending a phone. That is a device-level option, not necessarily what a game test invitation requires: Play test access still depends on the eligible account and the developer’s setup.

Apple recommends two-factor authentication, a device passcode, and supported Face ID or Touch ID. Two-factor authentication uses the account password plus a six-digit verification code sent to a trusted device or phone number. Read Apple’s two-factor authentication guidance.
The exact current steps for using a different Apple Account with TestFlight while keeping your primary account signed in for other iPhone services are not established here. Use the account associated with the invitation and consult Apple’s current TestFlight instructions for your setup before changing sign-in settings. Do not casually sign out of iCloud or change the iPhone’s primary account just to join a test. Apple’s purchase-migration guidance, dated July 24, 2025, mentions a TestFlight-specific restriction for an account used as the secondary account in that purchase-migration flow; it is not a general TestFlight account-switching tutorial.

Choose the boundary that matches your concern
- Keeping test access and store activity distinct: Use the account the developer has approved and check which account is active before enrolling or installing.
- Keeping account data off a shared device: Adding an account to Android can sync associated information to the phone. A separate Android user or guest may suit lending scenarios, while a separate device can provide a stronger practical boundary for some people; neither is established as necessary for joining a test or as a guarantee of isolation.
- Protecting personal information from the game: Review the app’s data disclosures and permissions, limit what you share in the game, and avoid adding payment details unless required. A separate store account does not answer what the app collects.
