There is no verified Chromebook that is best for all three jobs. For Android Studio in ChromeOS, Google’s documented recommendations offer a useful shortlist, with the Lenovo Flex 5 Chromebook as a defensible starting point. For Android Emulator use, check Google’s narrower supported-device list. For replacing ChromeOS with Linux, choose by the exact device’s board name, firmware options, and Linux hardware compatibility—not its retail name.
Which Chromebook should you start with for Android development?
If you want to run Android Studio while keeping ChromeOS, start with Google’s ChromeOS Android development guidance. It recommends at least 8 GB of RAM, 20 GB of available storage, a 1280 × 800 screen resolution, and an Intel i5 U-series processor or higher. These are Google’s published recommendations, not results from an independent performance test. Check the exact generation and configuration: the model name alone does not establish that a particular unit meets them.
A documented starting point: Lenovo Flex 5 Chromebook
Google lists the Lenovo Flex 5 Chromebook among its recommended Android Studio devices, making it a reasonable first model to investigate for Android development in ChromeOS. The documentation does not identify a specific Flex 5 generation or configuration, establish current retail availability, or confirm that a Flex 5 supports Android Emulator or MrChromebox firmware. Verify those separately before buying.
Other models in Google’s Android Studio recommendation list
Google’s recommendation list also names Acer Chromebook 13 and Spin 13; Chromebook 712; ASUS Chromebook Flip C436FA; Dell Inspiron Chromebook 14, Latitude 5300 2-in-1 Chromebook Enterprise, and Latitude 5400 Chromebook Enterprise; HP Chromebook x360 14 and x360 14c; Lenovo Yoga C630 Chromebook; and Chromebox models: Acer Chromebox CXI3, ASUS Chromebox 3, CTL Chromebox CBx1, HP Chromebox G2, and ViewSonic NMP660 Chromebox. These are documented model names, not confirmation of current models for sale or of any particular SKU’s specifications.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Which Chromebooks are documented for Android Emulator?
Google’s Android Emulator list is narrower than its Android Studio recommendation list. If local virtual-device testing matters, use the emulator list to check the exact device rather than assuming every Android Studio recommendation supports the emulator.
| Google’s documented category | Devices named | What that establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Android Studio recommendations | Lenovo Flex 5 Chromebook; Acer Chromebook 13, Spin 13, and Chromebook 712; ASUS Chromebook Flip C436FA; Dell Inspiron Chromebook 14, Latitude 5300 2-in-1 Chromebook Enterprise, and Latitude 5400 Chromebook Enterprise; HP Chromebook x360 14 and x360 14c; Lenovo Yoga C630 Chromebook; Acer Chromebox CXI3; ASUS Chromebox 3; CTL Chromebox CBx1; HP Chromebox G2; ViewSonic NMP660 Chromebox. | Google includes these legacy model names in its broader recommended-device list. It does not specify current generations, prices, or SKU-level configurations. |
| Android Emulator devices | Acer Chromebook 712; ASUS Chromebook Flip C436FA; Dell Latitude 5300 and 5400 Chromebook Enterprise; HP Chromebook x360 14c. | These are the devices named on Google’s separate emulator list; the broader recommendation does not imply emulator support for other models. |
Google’s Android Studio documentation describes deploying ChromeOS apps to a connected hardware device. Separately, its general Linux-on-ChromeOS help page lists Android emulators as unsupported in that Debian environment. Those statements concern different workflows: do not infer that Android Studio’s device-specific emulator guidance means an emulator runs in the Crostini Linux container, or that the general Linux help page rules out every ChromeOS emulator path.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Is Linux development in ChromeOS the same as installing Linux?
No. ChromeOS’s Linux development environment, commonly called Crostini, is a Debian environment integrated with ChromeOS. Google’s documentation describes using it to install command-line tools, editors, and IDEs, including through APT. You keep ChromeOS rather than replacing it with a separate Linux distribution.
The Chromium device support information says devices launched in 2019 and later support Linux on ChromeOS unless otherwise specified, and lists supported older devices individually. Check the current device’s support status before purchase or setup; a work- or school-managed Chromebook may also have Linux disabled by its administrator.

The general Linux help documentation lists limitations in this environment, including Android emulators, hardware acceleration such as GPU and video decode, and cameras. If your work depends on those features, confirm that the specific workflow is supported; do not treat Crostini as equivalent to Linux running directly on the hardware.
What to check before choosing a Chromebook for full Linux
Replacing ChromeOS is a separate decision from enabling its Linux development environment. MrChromebox firmware support is limited to Intel and AMD x86_64 devices, and is identified by ChromeOS HWID or board name—not just the Chromebook’s retail model name.

- Find the exact board identity. Check the device’s ChromeOS HWID or board name against MrChromebox’s maintained compatibility information. A matching retail name is not enough.
- Confirm the architecture. MrChromebox firmware supports Intel/AMD x86_64 devices only; a Chromebook outside that scope is not a candidate for its firmware.
- Check which firmware option is available. Depending on the device, the list may offer RW_LEGACY or UEFI Full ROM. Availability differs by board.
- Verify Linux support independently. Firmware availability only addresses booting; it is not a promise that Linux drivers, suspend, audio, Wi-Fi, or other hardware features will work. Check the Chrultrabook compatibility list for operating-system compatibility.
- Understand the write-protection method and recovery implications. Hardware write protection must be disabled for UEFI Full ROM, and the method varies by device. Make sure the procedure and consequences are acceptable before proceeding.
What does UEFI Full ROM change?
MrChromebox describes UEFI Full ROM as a complete firmware image intended to provide the best support for booting non-ChromeOS operating systems. It is a conversion, not a casual setting: it removes the ability to run ChromeOS and Recovery Mode, requires a UEFI-compatible operating system, and requires disabling hardware write protection. If retaining ChromeOS or its recovery path matters, Full ROM is not the appropriate assumption.
MrChromebox’s FAQ cautions: “Buying any Chromebook with the intention of running Windows or Linux is not a great idea.” The same FAQ notes that many Chromebooks cannot boot other operating systems, and that devices which can boot them may have functional deficiencies. Treat the firmware compatibility list as a starting point, then check OS-specific hardware support.

How to choose based on your actual workflow
| Your priority | Best decision path | Key check |
|---|---|---|
| Android Studio in ChromeOS | Start with Google’s recommended-device list; Lenovo Flex 5 Chromebook is one named option. | Confirm the exact configuration against Google’s RAM, storage, display, and processor guidance. |
| Android Emulator | Choose only after checking Google’s separate emulator-supported list. | Do not infer emulator support from the broader Android Studio recommendations. |
| Linux command-line tools or IDEs while retaining ChromeOS | Use ChromeOS’s Debian Linux development environment where the device supports it. | Confirm device support and any administrator restrictions; account for the documented container limitations. |
| A full Linux distribution instead of ChromeOS | Investigate the exact HWID/board, firmware option, and OS compatibility before buying or modifying the device. | Check x86_64 eligibility, write-protection requirements, and Linux hardware support separately. |
The available documentation supports a conditional shortlist, not a universal winner. Google’s Android Studio model recommendations do not establish current sales availability or custom-firmware support, and a firmware entry does not guarantee a complete Linux experience. Select for the workflow you actually need and verify the exact device configuration and board.
