Build a recognizable LEGO PlayStation-inspired console display by starting with its footprint and silhouette, then reinforcing the body with overlapping brick layers before adding a few contrasting details. Treat it as a custom display model, not a measured set of instructions: no tested parts list or custom dimensions are established here.
Choose the scale and footprint
Decide first whether you want a close interpretation of the original PlayStation or a looser, smaller console-inspired model. Use a reference image while planning the footprint, body height, and the space needed for any controller or display accessories.
For a size reference, LEGO’s licensed PlayStation set 72306 measures over 6 cm high, 26 cm wide, and 19 cm deep. Those are dimensions of the official model—not requirements for a custom build. The 18+ set contains 1,911 pieces and depicts the original PlayStation console and controller. LEGO’s set listing and its 2026 announcement provide the official product details.
Before collecting parts, check that the chosen footprint fits the shelf and that the finished model can sit without rocking. This is a practical planning check, not a published stability test for a custom design.

Build a broad, low body
Begin with a low rectangular base and add the console’s main body in broad, joined layers. Avoid making a decorative top layer do the structural work: the layers beneath it should connect across the model so the body stays together when handled.
LEGO’s building-technique guide explains that locking bricks by placing one across others above or below helps an assembly hold more weight and stay connected. Apply that principle where the shell’s layers meet, especially at corners and along long edges. See LEGO’s guide to building techniques.

Shape the console’s silhouette
Once the main block is secure, use side-facing elements or slopes to suggest the console’s distinctive edges and any inset areas. A vertical stack is simple, but it may not capture every angled or stepped surface. LEGO describes sideways building as a way to extend a model in different directions using differently oriented studs or holes; it can help when the shape you want does not follow the usual upward stack.
Keep the silhouette readable at the distance from which the display will normally be seen. If a small contour makes the body fragile or visually busy, prioritize a clean overall shape over that detail.

Add a small number of recognizable details
Use a restrained set of contrasting elements to suggest the disc area, buttons, controller port, and vents. Details work best when they help identify the object without overwhelming its shape. LEGO’s building guide likewise describes details as carefully chosen elements that help communicate what a model represents.
Choose the palette and approximate element shapes before shopping. LEGO says its Pick a Brick service sells individual bricks and special elements; what is available can vary by catalog and region. Use an official set as a reference or alternative
If you would rather build a licensed model than design your own, LEGO set 72306 is an official display model of the original PlayStation console and controller. LEGO announced 1,911 pieces, functional Open and Power buttons, a plug-in controller, and concealed buildable dioramas inspired by Gran Turismo and Ape Escape. The announcement listed launch prices of £139.99, €159.99, and $179.99, with LEGO Insiders Early Access from October 1, 2026 and general availability from October 4, 2026.
