Choose Polaroid if you want a larger, square classic-format print and don’t mind waiting longer for color film to develop. Choose Fujifilm Instax mini if compact prints and faster development matter more. The comparison depends on the camera and film format: Polaroid and Instax each sell distinct systems, so check the exact model’s compatibility before buying.
How the print sizes compare
The representative formats make different tradeoffs. Polaroid Color i-Type film has a 79 × 79 mm image area on a 107 × 88 mm sheet. Fujifilm specifies a 62 × 46 mm picture size for the Instax mini 13. These are the manufacturers’ stated image-area and picture-size measurements, respectively, rather than identical measurement types; they still show the practical difference: the Polaroid image is larger, while the Instax mini picture is more compact.
Polaroid Go is a separate, smaller Polaroid format, so not every Polaroid camera produces the larger i-Type print. Check the format associated with the particular camera you’re considering.
How long prints take to develop
For the cited examples, Fujifilm specifies approximately 90 seconds for Instax mini 13 film to develop, with timing dependent on ambient temperature. Polaroid lists 10–15 minutes for Color i-Type film. If you want to see a print develop quickly, the Instax mini example has the advantage; if you prefer the larger i-Type image, allow more time before judging the result.

Which cameras and film work together?
Film is specific to its camera system and format. A Polaroid Now+ Generation 3 bundle uses i-Type film; Polaroid says i-Type is not compatible with vintage Polaroid cameras. Instax mini 13 uses Instax mini film, while Fujifilm also sells separate Instax SQUARE and WIDE film families. Those formats are not interchangeable.
- Polaroid example: Polaroid Now+ Generation 3 with i-Type film.
- Instax example: Instax mini 13 with Instax mini film.
Before purchasing a camera or stocking up on film, verify the exact format in the product listing or manual. A camera’s brand name alone is not enough to establish compatibility.

Analog or hybrid: decide what kind of shooting you want
Fujifilm’s lineup includes both analog and hybrid Instax products. An analog camera gives you the direct camera-to-print experience. Hybrid models add digital functions, so compare those separately if you want the option to use digital features as well as instant prints. The Instax lineup is listed on Fujifilm’s camera page.
Power and recurring film costs
The cited Polaroid Now+ starter set specifies lithium-ion power, while the Instax mini 13 manual specifies two AA batteries. That may matter if you prefer a rechargeable camera or replaceable batteries.

Film is an ongoing cost, but the available prices do not support a fair cost-per-print winner. Polaroid’s U.S. direct store listed one Color i-Type pack at $18.99 when accessed on October 7, 2026; that is a dated U.S. price and may change. A matching current Instax mini price for the same market was not established. Check the current local price and exposure count for each compatible pack before comparing cost per print.

- Choose a Polaroid i-Type camera if you value the larger square image and are comfortable with the cited 10–15 minute color-film development time. The Now+ Generation 3 is one example, not a description of every Polaroid model.
- Choose an Instax mini camera if you prefer a smaller picture and faster development. The mini 13 is one analog example; its film development is approximately 90 seconds under Fujifilm’s temperature-dependent specification.
- Compare a different format or model directly if you’re considering Polaroid Go, Instax SQUARE or WIDE, or a hybrid Instax camera. Print size, compatibility, and features vary across those products.
These comparisons use manufacturer specifications, not a hands-on or controlled image-quality test. They establish differences in format, development time, and specified power—not which brand delivers better color, exposure, or reliability.
