Choose an AI video platform by the recurring work you need it to do—not by a flashy demo or a vendor’s headline savings claim. Start with your main use case, then compare output limits, localization, team controls, rights and security, and total cost at your expected production volume. Because vendor feature pages do not establish which tool produces the best results for your scripts or audience, pilot shortlisted platforms with the same material before committing.

Start with the video workflow you need

“AI video production” can mean several different workflows. A platform suited to turning scripts into presenter-led training videos may not be the right fit for creative marketing, dubbed localization, interactive learning, or automated production through an API. Identify the recurring job first; then assess whether the platform supports the steps your team actually performs.

  • Training and internal communications: Check script-to-video or slide-to-video creation, reusable presenters, review tools, and ways to keep updates manageable.
  • Marketing and sales: Look for the creative controls, brand assets, formats, and collaboration features needed to produce and revise campaign or sales content.
  • Localization: Evaluate translation, dubbing, editing and proofreading workflows, and whether lip-sync works for your languages and source material.
  • Interactive learning: If learners need to respond to an avatar, verify that interactive sessions support the roleplay, survey, or learning flow you intend to build.
  • Automated or embedded production: If videos must be generated from another system, check API support and the specific workflows it exposes, such as personalized video or dubbing.

For example, Synthesia describes enterprise workflows for training, onboarding, communications, interactive avatar sessions, and API-driven personalized video, interactive avatars, and dubbing on its enterprise platform page. These are vendor-described capabilities; confirm that the functions and terms available to your account match your requirements.

Compare output limits with your real production volume

A plan’s headline price is not enough to predict whether it can support your workload. Check how long each video can be, which export resolutions are available, how generation is metered, whether usage is pooled, and what happens when you reach a limit. Also ask about concurrency, queue priority, processing time expectations, rollover, top-ups, and overage charges where applicable.

For a concrete example of why plan details matter, HeyGen’s UK pricing page, accessed October 7, 2026, lists a free tier with three videos per month and a one-minute cap. It lists videos up to 30 minutes for Creator and Pro and up to 60 minutes for Business. The same page lists 1080p export for Creator and 4K for Pro and Business, along with credits and other plan features. These are page details for the UK market at the time accessed, not universal allowances; check the current page and terms for your region and billing cycle. See HeyGen’s UK pricing and plan details.

Estimate monthly output using the number of videos, their typical duration, the languages and versions required, and the resolution you expect to export. Then compare that workload against each plan’s consumption rules—not just its included video count.

Test localization with your actual languages

A long language list does not establish that a platform will handle your content well. Select a representative script and test the languages, writing systems, names, technical terms, and speaking styles your audience needs. Review the complete workflow: translation editing, proofreading, dubbing, and lip-sync where relevant. Include a reviewer who can assess each target language rather than relying only on an automated preview.

  • Can editors change translated wording before generating the video?
  • Can a qualified reviewer proofread the translation and pronunciation?
  • Does dubbing suit the intended voice, tone, and subject matter?
  • Is lip-sync available for the selected language and avatar, and does it look acceptable in your sample?
  • Can the team revise one language without rebuilding or disrupting other versions?

Availability and quality should be verified for the particular languages and content you plan to publish; a vendor’s general localization description is not a guarantee for every language pair.

Check whether the team workflow fits

For team production, evaluate what happens between generating a first draft and publishing the final video. Shared workspaces, comments, draft editing, centralized billing, pooled usage, versioning, reusable assets, and integrations can matter as much as the generation interface. Ask which features are included in the plan you are considering and which require an upgrade or enterprise agreement.

HeyGen’s business page describes team workspaces, shared and pooled usage, centralized billing, draft comments and editing, and integrations. Synthesia’s enterprise page describes versioning, audit logs, and brand guardrails. These are vendor statements, so verify the available controls, user roles, and plan coverage with the vendor. HeyGen’s business features and Synthesia’s enterprise features provide examples of the kinds of capabilities to compare.

Verify rights, consent, privacy, and security

Before uploading source material or publishing generated videos, confirm the terms that apply to your exact plan, account, jurisdiction, and use case. Review commercial-use rights, consent requirements for custom avatars and voices, data-use terms, retention and deletion, access controls, and security commitments. If procurement requires SSO, audit records, or specific compliance coverage, obtain confirmation for the contracted service rather than relying on a general marketing page.

HeyGen says its business offering includes commercial use rights for videos and describes SAML/SSO. Synthesia lists claims including SOC 2, GDPR, and ISO 42001 on its enterprise page. These are vendor-presented statements, not a substitute for reviewing current terms, certification scope, and contractual coverage applicable to your account. Compare total cost on the same assumptions

Prices and allowances can vary by region, billing cycle, and plan, and a low entry price may not reflect the cost of a multi-seat team producing frequent, long, localized videos. Compare options using the same assumptions:

  • Buyer region and billing cycle
  • Number of users and any additional-seat charges
  • Monthly video count and typical duration
  • Required resolution and languages
  • Expected credits, pooled usage, top-ups, or overages
  • Required add-ons, integrations, and enterprise terms

For illustration, HeyGen’s UK pricing page accessed October 7, 2026, displayed Creator at £21/month, Pro at £37/month, and Business at £111/month, and stated that added Business seats cost $20 per seat. Those values are specific to the accessed UK page and may depend on billing or other page conditions; they should not be treated as universal or assumed to match another region. Check the current listing and confirm the price for your account at HeyGen’s pricing page. The available information does not support naming a single cheapest platform without comparable workload and purchasing assumptions.

Run a matched pilot before choosing

Official vendor materials describe features and plans, but they do not provide an independent cross-platform benchmark for image quality, voice quality, lip-sync, or reliability. A short, controlled pilot is the practical way to judge fit for your use case.

  1. Choose a representative script. Use the same source text, names, terminology, and visual requirements in each shortlisted platform.
  2. Set matching output requirements. Use the same target languages, video duration, resolution, and production volume assumptions wherever the tools allow.
  3. Apply a shared review rubric. Have reviewers score factual and translation accuracy, pronunciation, visual consistency, lip-sync where relevant, export quality, and editing effort.
  4. Record the production experience. Track the human time needed to revise, review, and export each video, along with any usage consumed or limits encountered.
  5. Decide against your workflow. Select the platform that meets your quality, governance, and operational requirements at a sustainable cost for the workload you expect.

Do not treat vendor-presented outcome figures as a substitute for this evaluation. HeyGen’s business page shows claims such as “10X faster video production” and “40% increase in video watch time,” while Synthesia’s enterprise page displays “50% decreased production time” and “90% time savings.” The pages do not establish a shared, comparable methodology for these claims, so they are not reliable cross-platform expectations for your team.
