Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesIf your PC needs an upgrade now, choose among CPUs you can buy today based on workload, total build cost, and compatibility—not an unconfirmed launch rumor. If your current system is still adequate, waiting may make sense, but Intel’s reviewed official materials do not establish a firm date for its next new desktop generation.
What Intel has announced—and what remains unknown
Intel’s desktop processor listing, last reviewed March 11, 2026, identifies Core Ultra Series 2 desktop processors, formerly known as Arrow Lake. It lists the Core Ultra 7 270K Plus and Core Ultra 5 250KF Plus in Q1 2026, alongside the 285K and 265K from Q4 2024. Intel’s March 11 announcement says retail availability for the Core Ultra 5 250K Plus, 250KF Plus, and Core Ultra 7 270K Plus would begin March 26, 2026. Intel’s desktop processor launch-date list and March 2026 announcement establish those products and dates, not the launch date of a subsequent desktop generation.
So treat “delayed” as a buying scenario unless Intel makes a current, official statement confirming a delay and a date. The sources above do not provide a firm date for the next new Intel desktop generation. Do not confuse laptop Series 3 or Panther Lake announcements with desktop CPU availability.
Decide whether your PC can wait
Buy now if your current system blocks real work
Start with the task your PC must handle. For gaming, note your target resolution, graphics card, and the games you play. For production work, identify the specific applications and whether they benefit from CPUs with more cores. Then compare CPUs using independent tests for those workloads, not a general ranking alone.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Work out the whole-build cost: processor, motherboard, memory, cooler, and any graphics card you need. Intel announced March 2026 starting suggested prices of $199 for the Core Ultra 5 250K Plus and $299 for the Core Ultra 7 270K Plus. Those were Intel launch figures, not current retail prices or a guarantee of stock. Check live listings and recent benchmark coverage before choosing.
Wait if your existing PC remains adequate
Waiting has value when your current computer meets your needs and you are comfortable with an uncertain product date. The trade-off is continued use of a slower system, plus the possibility that a future processor’s price, availability, or platform requirements will not suit your build. Set a practical trigger for buying—for example, when a recurring task becomes unacceptably slow—rather than waiting for a date that has not been confirmed.

Compare current Intel and AMD options on the same terms
Compare models with a workload-relevant benchmark set and current local prices. Tom’s Hardware’s 2026 desktop comparison considers Intel Core Ultra 200S Plus and AMD Ryzen 9000/X3D options across several of the relevant buying factors; its rankings and price snapshots are editorial analysis, not vendor specifications. See Tom’s Hardware’s desktop CPU comparison, then verify current prices and results for your own applications.
| What to compare | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Gaming and productivity performance | A CPU that leads in one game or application may not be the best fit for another workload. Compare tests that resemble what you run. |
| CPU, motherboard, and memory cost | A lower processor price can be offset by a more expensive platform or required component changes. |
| Power and cooling | Check that your cooler and case can handle the chosen CPU under your intended workload. |
| Features, software, firmware, and security | Confirm that the platform and applications support the features you need and that the board receives appropriate firmware updates. |
| Upgrade path | Socket support can affect future options, but verify platform commitments with the processor maker rather than treating a secondary-source summary as a guarantee. |
Tom’s Hardware reports AMD’s AM5 support commitment through 2027. That is secondary-source platform context; check AMD’s current guidance before relying on it for a long-term upgrade plan.

Check the exact CPU, graphics, motherboard, and BIOS
Read the suffix before buying
Intel’s naming guide describes Core Ultra 9, 7, and 5 as performance tiers and says the first SKU number—1 or 2—represents the generation. For desktop suffixes, K denotes a high-performance, unlocked processor; F means discrete graphics are required. Intel’s support article specifically says the Core Ultra 5 250KF Plus has no Intel processor graphics and identifies it as an LGA1851 processor. Intel’s processor naming guide and Intel’s list of desktop processors without integrated graphics explain these distinctions.
If you choose an F-suffix model such as the 250KF Plus, include a discrete graphics card in the build or verify another suitable display-output solution. Do not assume the processor can drive a display by itself.

Verify support for your motherboard model
Intel says Core Ultra 200S Plus desktop processors maintain compatibility with 800-series chipset motherboards then on the market. That is Intel’s platform-level statement, not a substitute for checking an individual board. Look up the exact motherboard model in its manufacturer’s CPU support list and confirm the required BIOS version before buying. If you already own a board, this check can determine whether you can reuse it or need a replacement.
