Valve describes a customizable 17-LED RGB bar, but its product and Steamworks pages do not explain how to make it respond to music or game audio. A community guide mentions a possible Decky plugin, but its claim and SteamOS compatibility are unverified.
What the Steam Machine’s light bar supports
Valve lists a configurable bar containing 17 RGB LEDs and identifies SteamOS 3 as the operating system. Its product information describes customizable lighting and system indications, not audio visualization. Valve’s Steam Machine product page does not provide an audio-reactive setting or setup procedure. Valve’s Steamworks documentation describes the device as a gaming computer, but likewise gives no instructions for syncing the bar to audio.
That means there is no verified Valve-supported path to configure the built-in LEDs to pulse with music. You can use the machine’s documented lighting customization for its available colors and status behavior, but the available sources do not establish the exact menu path or controls, so this guide does not invent them.
Is there a community audio-sync option?
A third-party guide reports that a Decky plugin named GabeCubeAura, version 1.3.2, adds audio sync to the built-in light bar. The guide could not be opened for verification, and no primary project page, release notes, installation instructions, or current SteamOS compatibility information was available to substantiate the claim. Treat it as an unverified lead, not a confirmed solution.

Before installing anything based on that claim, locate the plugin’s current project source and confirm its SteamOS version support, Decky requirements, and audio-capture method. Also check whether it controls the integrated bar specifically and whether it remains compatible after SteamOS updates. Do not rely on an installation command or menu path unless the project itself documents it.
Would a separate RGB light strip work?
An external RGB strip and controller can provide ambient lighting, but that is a separate setup: the available information does not show that an external system can control the Steam Machine’s built-in bar. Skydimo advertises music visualization for supported RGB hardware, while its Steam listing specifies Windows 10 and Windows 11 requirements. It does not establish SteamOS compatibility or control of the integrated LEDs. Skydimo’s Steam listing therefore is not evidence of a working Steam Machine setup.

If you evaluate an external option, check which operating systems it supports, whether it samples playback audio or ambient sound, which lights it can control, expected latency, setup requirements, and how it handles system updates. Confirm those details with the hardware and software makers before buying or installing equipment.

What to do now
- For the built-in bar, use only the lighting customization and status behavior documented by Valve; audio reactivity is not documented in the official sources cited here.
- If investigating GabeCubeAura, verify the current project, SteamOS compatibility, Decky prerequisites, and audio capture before following any instructions.
- If using a separate light strip, treat it as external ambient lighting and verify SteamOS support independently; Windows-only requirements do not establish compatibility.
