If you only want fewer people to see a post, change its audience instead. Deleting posts is not the same as deactivating or permanently deleting your account.
If you’re asking, “How do I manage what I’ve shared on Facebook?”, Meta’s Activity Log is the place to review your activity. Its default view starts with the current year and most recent activity; use the controls and labels shown in your account, since available actions can vary by content type.
How do I find and delete Facebook posts?
- Open your Activity Log. Start from your profile menu or settings and choose Activity Log. The exact route and labels can vary as Facebook updates its interface. Meta describes the log as a way to review and manage things you’ve shared, including photos and likes. Meta’s Activity Log help page says its default view shows the current year, starting with the most recent activity.
- Locate the activity. Browse or use the available filters to find the post or other item. The Activity Log is visible only to you, though stories shown in it may also appear on your timeline, in search, or in friends’ News Feeds.
- Choose the available action. Open the item’s options and select the relevant manage, archive, or delete control if offered. Manage Activity supports archiving or deleting some content, but actions are not necessarily identical for every item. Check the confirmation prompt before proceeding.
Deleting an item removes it rather than merely narrowing its audience. If your aim is to stop a post being visible to a particular group, adjust its audience instead.
Change who can see a post without deleting it
Facebook’s audience controls let you limit who can see a profile post while keeping the post. Open the post’s audience option and select an audience available for that item. You can also review relevant controls through Meta’s profile-post management help and Facebook privacy settings. These controls apply to supported posts, photos, and videos; they do not guarantee that every type of shared activity has the same options.

Choose between managing posts, deactivating, and deleting your account

These are different choices, not three ways of doing the same thing. If you want to remove a few posts, use content controls. If you want a reversible break, deactivation hides your profile without deleting its posts. Account deletion is the broadest option and can affect services beyond Facebook.
Download information you want to keep before deletion
Before permanently deleting your account—or removing content you may later want—decide what to preserve. Meta says you can download a copy of your information, including photos and posts. Its information tools allow downloads by category and date range, and support transferring a copy to another service. See Meta’s information-download help for a related example of those tools. You may save the downloaded archive to a personal computer or an external drive; external storage is optional, not a Facebook requirement.

What happens after a Facebook deletion request?
In the deletion flow described by Meta, a request may be cancelled within 30 days, but that period varies by region. Removing posted content can take up to 90 days from the start of deletion. Copies may remain in backup storage, or be retained for legal reasons, terms enforcement, or harm prevention. As a result, account deletion does not guarantee that every copy everywhere disappears immediately. Review Meta’s account-deletion information for the terms that apply to your account and location.
