Do not apply one project’s settings advice to the other. For bbport, the current project notes recommend FSR 3 at 1280×720 output for Steam Deck; NVIDIA users are advised to use FSR 3 and leave the experimental memory model off.
Choose the project that matches your operating system

Use a careful settings process
For bbport, start with the project’s default settings, then make one change at a time. Compare the same area before and after each change, paying attention to frame pacing as well as image quality. Keep a short note of the setting you changed and its effect so you can return to a stable configuration.
- Record the baseline. Note your project and version, output resolution, upscaler and preset, sharpness, and visual-effect settings.
- Change one control. Adjust only one resolution, upscaling, or effect option before comparing.
- Check both motion and image quality. A sharper or cleaner-looking frame is not automatically a smoother experience; assess consistency in the same scene.
- Revert instability. If a setting introduces crashes or other instability, undo that change and return to the last stable configuration.
This is a troubleshooting method, not a claim that a particular preset or frame rate has been benchmarked. Results depend on the project version and hardware.
What bbport’s graphics menu lets you adjust
The upstream Linux bbport documentation describes controls for upscaler, preset, sharpness, and output resolution, along with visual effects and model detail. Tune these according to the trade-off you want rather than assuming every option should be maximized.

These controls describe bbport’s menu and should not be assumed to exist under the same names, or behave the same way, in shadPS4.
Follow bbport’s platform-specific recommendations
The project’s 2026 release notes provide specific guidance for Steam Deck and NVIDIA systems. These are project recommendations, not independent benchmark results or guaranteed performance targets.

- Steam Deck: Use FSR 3 and set output resolution to 1280×720, according to the bbport release notes. Release notes
- NVIDIA: The release notes advise using FSR 3 and keeping the new memory model off. The notes say the experimental memory model does not work properly on NVIDIA.
- Other hardware: The cited release notes do not establish a best preset or expected frame rate for other GPUs. Begin at defaults and evaluate changes on your own system.
Leave the experimental memory model off unless you accept the risk
In bbport, the new memory model is off by default. The release notes describe its testing as limited to the author’s RX 7800 XT system and a Steam Deck, warn that it may crash, and state that it does not work properly on NVIDIA. That narrow testing does not establish stability or benefit for other configurations. Unless you are deliberately testing an experimental feature and can tolerate crashes, leave it disabled.
Understand prerequisites and game-file limits
shadPS4
The shadPS4 project describes setup as requiring a game dump and essential PS4 system modules, and its site discusses installing firmware modules and retail package files. Use only game files you lawfully obtained. The project is experimental, and crashes or glitches can occur; setup requirements and compatibility should be checked against the documentation for the build you install. shadPS4 project site

bbport
The upstream repository targets Bloodborne CUSA03173, version 1.09, and does not include game files. Its Linux requirements and instructions are specific to that project. The separate Windows fork also says users need their own decrypted dump, but its current status does not make it a playable Windows alternative.
Controllers are optional
bbport documents controller selection and remapping, so a PC-compatible gamepad is an optional physical accessory. The project documentation does not establish a tested or recommended controller model; check compatibility for your operating system and configuration.

Can these settings guarantee 60 fps?
No broadly applicable 60-fps configuration or expected frame rate is established by the project documentation cited here. Emulator and port behavior can change between releases, and the available recommendations are platform-specific. Treat resolution and upscaler choices as settings to evaluate, not a promise of a particular frame rate.
