A community post dated October 7, 2026, reports RPCS3 running as a native app on one jailbroken PS5 Pro. The uploader describes the build as experimental and unofficial, and reports different results between games. It is not evidence that RPCS3 is officially supported on PS5, or that PS5 Pro can reliably play PS3 games.
What the PS5 Pro RPCS3 report says
Reddit user u/LavaVex said RPCS3 ran from the home screen as a native PS5 title on a jailbroken PS5 Pro with firmware 13.60. The post says the build used Vulkan through a community graphics-driver port. These are the uploader’s claims; they have not been independently verified in the available reporting. The uploader described testing one console and a handful of games, and warned that users should expect crashes and broken games. The reported outcomes were mixed:
- Need for Speed Carbon: The uploader claimed it ran at a locked 60 fps, with audio and DualSense input. That figure is a claim about one experimental test, not an independently measured or generally expected PS5 Pro result.
- inFAMOUS: The uploader said it booted and could be played, including saving and loading, but stuttered and slowed below full speed in heavier areas.
The post says the builder used an Arch-based Linux machine and a bootstrap script to create an installable title folder. It describes loading game files from internal storage or an exFAT USB drive, and says users must supply PS3 firmware and games. It does not establish a general setup guide, a required USB model, or broad availability of a ready-to-install build.

Did the RPCS3 team respond about PS5 emulation?
Notebookcheck reported on September 8, 2026, that the RPCS3 team had been asked whether Sony could have delivered PS3 compatibility on PS5. According to that secondary report, the team’s view was that the PS5’s eight-core Zen 2 CPU is not powerful enough to properly emulate PS3 games. This reported team commentary concerns the PS5’s emulation capability; it is not a direct assessment of the specific community PS5 Pro build and does not endorse or support it. The available report does not identify a named RPCS3 developer and role for the collective CPU assessment.

Is RPCS3 officially supported on PS5 or PS5 Pro?
No official PS5 version is established by the project’s published platform list. The RPCS3 GitHub repository describes the project as a free, open-source PlayStation 3 emulator and debugger for Windows, Linux, macOS, and FreeBSD; it does not list PS5. The Reddit uploader also explicitly says the PS5 Pro build is not official RPCS3 software.
Sony’s PS5 Pro compatibility guide documents compatibility and console features but does not list RPCS3 or PS3 emulation as a supported feature. That does not settle what every unofficial modification might do, but it gives no basis to treat this setup as a Sony-supported capability.

Can you play a PS3 game disc on PS5 Pro with RPCS3?
The report does not establish that a PS3 game disc can be played directly. It says the experimental setup loads game files from internal storage or an exFAT USB drive and requires users to supply game files and PS3 firmware. It does not provide a verified disc-reading procedure or show that a PS5 Pro can read and use a PS3 disc for RPCS3.
Because this is a jailbroken console and an unofficial build, the post is not a general installation recipe. Its limited account does not establish that another console, firmware version, game, or setup will behave the same way.

There are no comparable independent benchmarks here for RPCS3 on a PC, original PS3 hardware, and this modified PS5 Pro setup, so the reported results do not support ranking their speed or reliability.
