First distinguish that from opening the same wallet in another app: importing a recovery phrase or private key can give an app access to the existing wallet, but it does not move the NFT to a new address. Before sending, confirm the NFT’s network and receiving-wallet support, check the destination address carefully, and keep enough network-fee currency in the sending wallet.
Choose between a new wallet address and a new wallet app
If you only want to view or manage the same self-custodial wallet in another compatible app, importing its recovery phrase or private key may provide access to the same address and assets. That is not an NFT transfer. It also exposes credentials that control the wallet: never give them to a person offering help, and enter them only into a wallet app you trust.
If the goal is to move the NFT to a genuinely different address, use the wallet or marketplace’s send/transfer feature and send to the destination’s public address. If the original wallet credentials may have been exposed, importing them into another app does not secure the wallet; use a fresh wallet and transfer assets to it instead. OpenSea explains private-key export for access to a self-custodial wallet elsewhere in its export guidance.
Before you transfer
- Identify the NFT and network. Check the NFT’s item details and the network shown by the current wallet. The receiving wallet must support that network and the NFT’s asset type. Transfer steps and support vary by chain, token standard, and custodial service.
- Choose the destination. Copy the new wallet’s public address. OpenSea’s documented flow also accepts an ENS name; if you use one, confirm it resolves to the intended destination before signing.
- Keep fee funds available. Transfers require the network’s fee currency, and the amount varies with network conditions and the transaction. Do not send away the fee balance before completing other planned transfers. MetaMask advises sending gas tokens last during a broader migration. If the source wallet may be compromised, newly added gas could be swept before you can use it.
- Plan for an irreversible send. OpenSea warns that a completed transfer cannot be undone. Check the address and network before approving the wallet request.
Transfer the NFT
Using OpenSea
- Open your OpenSea profile’s NFTs tab, or open the NFT’s item page.
- Select the transfer or send action for the NFT.
- Enter the destination wallet address or an accepted ENS name, then review the details.
- Confirm the transaction in your connected wallet. Check the destination and transaction request before signing; the transaction uses the network’s fee currency.

Using MetaMask
MetaMask Mobile supports sending NFTs. Select the NFT and use the wallet’s send flow, then enter and verify the recipient address and approve the transaction. MetaMask’s NFT sending guidance notes that the sending wallet needs the network’s fee token. Interface labels can vary by app version and network.
Verify that the NFT arrived
Look for the transaction or completion confirmation in the marketplace, then check the transaction on the blockchain explorer for the NFT’s network. If the NFT is not visible in the destination wallet, that alone does not prove the transfer failed: first verify the on-chain transaction, then consult the receiving wallet’s instructions for displaying NFTs. What can prevent a successful move
- Unsupported network or asset type: Confirm the destination wallet supports the NFT’s chain and token standard before sending.
- Wrong recipient: Recheck every part of a copied address. For an ENS name, verify the resolved address. A mistaken transfer may be irreversible.
- Insufficient fee balance: The transaction may not proceed without enough of the relevant network’s fee currency. No fixed fee applies across networks or conditions.
- Compromised source wallet: Do not assume an asset is safe because it has been moved into another app using the same credentials. A compromised account may also sweep newly added fee funds.
- Custodial platform restrictions: Withdrawal steps depend on the platform and the NFT. Confirm its current rules and supported networks; a wallet-to-wallet guide may not apply to a custodial withdrawal.
