To remove Copilot from the Windows taskbar, turn off its taskbar control in Settings > Personalization > Taskbar. To remove the Copilot app itself, uninstall it from Windows Settings. These are different actions: hiding the taskbar entry does not uninstall the app or disable every way to open Copilot.
Choose what you want to change

These steps apply to the Windows Copilot app and its Windows taskbar presence. They do not turn off Copilot features in Microsoft 365, Edge, or other Microsoft products.
Hide Copilot from the Windows 11 taskbar
- Open Settings > Personalization > Taskbar. Microsoft’s accessibility instructions give the route as Settings > System > Personalization > Taskbar.
- Find the Copilot-related taskbar control. Microsoft’s screen-reader guidance calls it Ask Copilot and describes it as an “Ask Copilot toggle button.”
- Switch the control off to hide the taskbar entry.
This changes taskbar access; it does not uninstall Copilot or establish that every other launch route is disabled. The control’s name and availability can vary with account settings, installed applications, and Windows configuration. If you do not see it, check those factors and confirm which Windows version you are using.
Uninstall the Copilot app
Windows 11
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for Copilot.
- Open the More options (…) menu beside the app.
- Select Uninstall and follow the on-screen prompts.
Windows 10
- Open Settings > Apps.
- Find Copilot in the app list.
- Select Uninstall and confirm if prompted.
Microsoft says new Windows 11 PCs may come with the Copilot app installed, and that it is also available from Microsoft Store. If your aim is only to clear the taskbar, use the taskbar control instead of uninstalling the app.

Stop the Copilot key or Windows + C from opening Copilot
Copilot can be launched with a dedicated Copilot key or with Windows key + C. To change the behavior without removing the app, use the available keyboard assignment setting:
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Keyboard.
- Select Customise Copilot key on keyboard, if it appears.
- Choose another available assignment, such as Search or Custom, rather than Microsoft Copilot or Copilot.
Microsoft also documents a shortcut setting in Copilot under Account > Settings > Copilot Keyboard Shortcuts. The options depend on account type, installed applications, and Windows configuration. Microsoft notes that if Copilot is turned on in Taskbar settings, that taskbar setting overrides the selection for the Copilot key. If you change the key but Copilot still opens, check the taskbar control as well.

For organization-managed PCs
Microsoft documents policy-based removal of selected preinstalled Store apps, including Copilot, for a restricted managed-device scenario: Windows 11 Enterprise or Education on a Dev-channel release, with Entra or Entra-hybrid joined devices. The documented administrator route involves Group Policy or mobile device management (MDM); the feature is disabled by default for Entra accounts. This is not a general consumer method, so use the ordinary Settings uninstall steps on a personal PC unless your organization’s administrator directs otherwise.

Hiding the taskbar entry, uninstalling the Windows app, or changing a keyboard assignment addresses Windows access to Copilot. None of those actions establishes that Copilot is disabled in Microsoft 365, Edge, or other Microsoft products; manage those products’ features separately.
