Neither Revolut nor Wise is always the better choice for an international transfer. Wise says it uses the mid-market exchange rate and charges a separate fee that varies with the transfer; Revolut’s exchange fees depend on your country, plan, allowance and timing. Compare live quotes for the same transfer and choose based on the amount the recipient is expected to receive, not the headline fee alone.
How Wise and Revolut differ on price
Wise: stated mid-market rate plus a variable fee
Wise says it uses the mid-market exchange rate without a markup, then charges a separate transfer fee. The fee depends on the amount, currency and payment method. As Wise puts it, “How much a transfer costs depends on three things — the amount you’re sending, how you pay, and the exchange rate.” Its pricing tool shows the quote for the specific transfer. Wise’s fee guidance describes this pricing approach; it does not establish that Wise is cheapest for every route.
Wise also documents a large-transfer discount on its Ireland regional pricing page: it begins at €22,000 or equivalent, with discounted pricing for the rest of the month after the threshold is reached. That is an Ireland-specific example, not a universal Wise threshold. Check the Ireland pricing terms only if they apply to your account.
Revolut: country- and plan-specific exchange rules
Revolut’s exchange allowances and additional fees vary by market and plan. Its UK and US personal-customer help pages illustrate why you need the terms for your own residence and account. The figures below are the terms on those regional pages, checked on October 7, 2026; the pages do not state a year for the terms.

For both regional pages, the stated weekend period is 17:00 Friday to 18:00 Sunday Eastern Time. These are exchange-fee rules, not a complete schedule of every possible international-transfer charge. Check the applicable terms and the in-app quote for your account: Revolut UK exchange fees and Revolut US exchange fees.
How to compare a transfer fairly
- Enter identical details. Use the same sending country, destination, send amount, recipient currency and funding method in each service.
- Compare the debit and payout. Record the total amount charged to you and the amount each service says the recipient will get.
- Inspect the rate and fees. Note the exchange rate, transfer fee and any funding fee shown. For Revolut, also account for your plan, remaining allowance and when the exchange takes place.
- Check possible outside charges. Intermediary or receiving banks may deduct fees. Wise’s USD-to-USD international-transfer guidance describes destination-dependent Swift fees and possible correspondent charges for that defined route. It lists $6.15 per transfer for routes with no predicted correspondent fees; this is not a general Wise fee and does not apply to every converted transfer.
- Compare the delivery estimate. Use the estimate shown for the exact route and funding method. The provider pages cited here do not establish that either service is faster across corridors.
The recipient amount is often the clearest like-for-like result, but read the quote details too: an estimate may not include a charge that a recipient or intermediary bank later deducts.
Route availability and transfer limits matter
Currency support and payout methods differ. Confirm that the exact sending and receiving currencies, countries and payout route are available in the provider’s current flow rather than relying on a broad country-availability claim. Wise’s supported-currency guidance lists currencies and route limitations.
There is no single global transfer limit that applies to every Wise customer. Wise’s US limits guide, updated March 28, 2026, says limits differ by payment type, including local transfer versus Swift, and that the app or desktop flow notifies customers when a payment reaches a limit. Check the current regional terms and the limit displayed for your payment. Wise US transfer limits.

Which service should you choose?
- Choose Wise when its live quote gives the recipient more for your exact route, or you value its stated mid-market rate with a separate, itemized transfer fee.
- Choose Revolut when its live quote gives the recipient more after your applicable plan, remaining allowance, exchange timing and any other listed charges.
- Check both before sending when the route, payout method, transfer size or timing could change the fees or availability. A low stated transfer fee by itself does not show which service is cheaper overall.
For either service, treat the quote and terms for your own account and route as decisive. Fees, supported routes and limits can vary by market and change over time.
