Start by identifying where the failure happens: a download that will not begin, an installation or file check that stalls, or a game that fails after you click Play. Those symptoms call for different fixes. Before changing launchers or security settings, check that your PC meets the game’s published requirements and that the selected drive has enough free space.
First, identify the failure stage
Use the symptom that best matches what you see, then follow the relevant section below. A download error points first to Ubisoft Connect, network, service status, or storage. A stuck installation calls for drive and file checks. If the launcher returns to Play or the game closes, focus on account linkage, launcher state, GPU selection, and possible software conflicts.
- Download will not start: Check connection, Ubisoft service status, storage, and Ubisoft Connect.
- Installation stalls or files appear damaged: Check the destination drive and verify or repair files through the store client.
- Play returns to Play, or nothing opens: Check Ubisoft Connect, the linked account, and launch dependencies.
- The game opens and then closes: Check system fit, dedicated GPU use, and possible overlay or security-software conflicts.
Check whether your PC and drive meet the requirements
Ubisoft’s PC listing, accessed October 7, 2026, gives a minimum target of 1080p at 30 FPS on Low with Quality upscaling. That tier lists a Core i7-8700K or Ryzen 5 3600 CPU, and a GTX 1660 6 GB, RX 5600 XT 6 GB, or Intel Arc A750 8 GB with Resizable BAR (ReBAR) enabled. Ubisoft lists 16 GB dual-channel RAM and a 65 GB SSD across the displayed performance tiers. The recommended tier targets 1080p at 60 FPS on High with Quality upscaling and lists a Core i5-10400 or Ryzen 5 5600X CPU, and an RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB or RX 6700 XT 12 GB GPU. Steam also lists 65 GB of storage and requires an SSD for its edition: Steam’s Star Wars Outlaws listing. Check the free space on the actual installation drive, not only the total capacity of your PC. An SSD is relevant if the destination is not an SSD or lacks space; buying one will not fix an account mismatch, service outage, launcher problem, or GPU issue. Before buying a drive, check that your desktop or laptop supports its interface and has a compatible slot or connection.

If the download will not start
Ubisoft’s general Ubisoft Connect guidance for an “Unable to start your download” error recommends checking the following. These are launcher troubleshooting steps, not fixes proven to resolve every Star Wars Outlaws download failure.
- Check your internet connection. Confirm that other sites or services work and retry the download.
- Check Ubisoft service status. Ubisoft recommends its Help Live Feed for planned maintenance or service degradation. If Ubisoft reports a disruption, wait for service to recover before changing files or reinstalling the game.
- Confirm available space. Make sure the selected library drive has enough free space for the game.
- Run Ubisoft Connect as administrator. Close the client, then reopen it with administrator rights and retry.
- Update Ubisoft Connect. Install any available client update before attempting the download again.
- Reinstall Ubisoft Connect only if the earlier checks fail. Follow Ubisoft’s instructions rather than deleting arbitrary game or cache folders.

If installation stalls or reports damaged files
Check the installation drive
Verify that the launcher is installing to the intended drive, that the drive has adequate free space, and that it is an SSD. This matters especially if the library is on a different drive from the one you checked when diagnosing the download.
Verify or repair files in the store client
Use the file verification or repair option provided by the storefront where you own the game. For Steam installations, Ubisoft staff have suggested repairing the Steam storage folder and verifying game files for some installation or launch cases. Follow Steam’s own client procedure for those checks; do not delete folders manually.

Clear launcher download caches only through the stated client procedures
In a Steam support discussion about the game, Ubisoft staff also suggested clearing the Steam and Ubisoft Connect download caches, after fully closing Ubisoft Connect from the system tray. Treat this as a storefront-specific troubleshooting step, not a reason to remove unrelated files. The discussion is at Ubisoft staff replies in the Star Wars Outlaws Steam support discussion.
If clicking Play returns you to the launcher
Steam lists Ubisoft Connect as a required third-party launcher and account dependency for its edition. That means the game’s launch chain includes both Steam and Ubisoft Connect; a working Steam installation alone may not be enough. Epic Games Store and Ubisoft Connect are also listed as PC distribution options by Ubisoft.

- Check Ubisoft Connect is installed and current. Open the client and install any available update.
- Sign in to the Ubisoft account linked to the game. If you have more than one account, confirm which one owns or is linked to the game.
- Try launching from Ubisoft Connect directly. Ubisoft staff recommended this as a troubleshooting test; it is not a guaranteed fix.
- Confirm account access before changing a link. Ubisoft staff noted that a game license may be tied to another Ubisoft account. Do not unlink and relink accounts until you have confirmed access and understand which account is associated with the license, because changing the link may affect how the game launches.
If the game closes silently or never appears
Make sure it is using the dedicated GPU
Compare your CPU and GPU with Ubisoft’s requirements, then check your system’s graphics settings to ensure the game is assigned to the dedicated GPU rather than integrated graphics. Ubisoft support representative Ubi-Mysterion specifically advised players to “Ensure you’re running the game on a dedicated GPU rather than an integrated GPU” in a July 10, 2025 reply in the Star Wars Outlaws support discussion.
Test software conflicts one at a time
Ubisoft staff have suggested trying security-software exceptions, opting out of Steam Beta in relevant cases, and temporarily disabling the Ubisoft Connect overlay or cloud synchronization to isolate conflicts. Change one setting at a time and retry the game so you can tell whether a change mattered. If you test a security exception, add only the relevant game or launcher through your security software’s normal settings; do not disable protection wholesale.

Test drive placement only if other checks do not explain the failure
Ubisoft staff have suggested trying the game and launch components on the same SSD to address possible drive-related conflicts. A later reply also noted that keeping Ubisoft Connect on the system drive while the game is installed on another SSD can be tried. These are troubleshooting experiments, not universal installation requirements.
When to contact Ubisoft Support
If the appropriate launcher checks do not resolve the problem, contact Ubisoft Support with a clear description of the symptom and the steps you already tried. For an unresolved Ubisoft Connect download error, Ubisoft specifically asks for DxDiag and MSInfo reports. Include whether you use Steam, Ubisoft Connect, or Epic Games Store, and whether the failure occurs during download, installation, or launch; that helps distinguish a storefront issue from a system or account problem.
Do not download unofficial game executables or use generic cleaner and driver-update utilities as a substitute for these checks. The available Ubisoft guidance does not establish that such tools resolve these failures.
